Watch Video: Presence of Four Leopards Triggers Panic in Nesbal Sumbal Locals in Fear, Orchards Under Threat

Panic and fear have gripped Nesbal Sumbal and adjoining areas after locals spotted four leopards roaming in the vicinity. According to residents, these wild animals have been sighted at multiple locations over the past few days, causing widespread concern and forcing people to restrict their movement.

Locals say that the presence of leopards has made it unsafe for children to attend school, while women and the elderly are also living under constant fear. Farmers and orchard owners are equally distressed, as the threat extends to their orchards and farmlands, posing a serious risk to both livelihood and safety.

It is pertinent to mention that last year, a minor boy lost his life in a leopard attack in this very area. Following the tragic incident, the Wildlife Department had installed a trap cage as a preventive measure. However, residents allege that the cage proved ineffective then — and remains so now. Although a team from the Wildlife Department is currently stationed in the area, locals complain that their response has been slow and lackluster.

The residents and local leaders have made a fervent appeal to the concerned Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and senior Wildlife officials for immediate intervention. They have urged the authorities to launch effective measures to ensure the safety of the local population and prevent any untoward incidents.

The locals fear that if timely action is not taken, the situation could escalate into a major tragedy.
