*Leopard Attack in Khansahib Leaves Several Injured*

Budgam, June 7 (JKNS): At least four were injured after a suspected leopard attack in Bhat Mohalla Riyar beeru area of Khansahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.

An official told news agency JKNS that the wild animal suddenly appeared in the locality, creating panic among residents. In the chaos, the leopard reportedly attacked multiple individuals before disappearing into nearby fields.

The injured have been shifted to a local hospital, with at least two said to have sustained serious injuries.

Cognizance of the incident has been taken and further investigation started. (JKNS)

Srinagar, (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has congratulated the University of Kashmir for securing the prestigious A++ grade in the recent NAAC re-accreditation cycle, terming it a true reflection of the varsity’s academic excellence and commitment to quality education.

In a post on X, as per news agency JKNS, Chief Minister said, “Delighted to know that the University of Kashmir has been accredited with NAAC A++ Grade. A true testament to its academic excellence and commitment to quality education. Heartiest congratulations to administration, faculty & students on this milestone!”

As reporter earlier, University of Kashmir became the first higher educational institution in J&K to be assessed under NAAC’s revised, more rigorous accreditation framework. It secured an Institutional CGPA of 3.68 the highest in its history placing it among the top universities in the country. (JKNS)

Srinagar, Jun 6 (JKNS): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the Valley on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha.

In his message, Bidhuri as per news agency JKNS said the festival embodies the values of compassion, sharing and togetherness.

“Eid-ul-Adha encapsulates the message of spreading joy and celebrating the spirit of equality and brotherhood,” he said.

SRINAGAR, JUNE 06: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, wishing them peace, well-being and prosperity.
In his message on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, the Chief Minister said the holy occasion imbibes in us the spirit of making honesty, truthfulness and selflessness a way of life.
He added that the festival commemorates the timeless example of absolute faith and unwavering obedience set by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his devoted son Prophet Ismail (AS).
“Eid-ul-Azha is not only a celebration of faith but also a reminder of the profound sacrifice and complete submission to the will of Almighty. The unwavering trust shown by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the willing obedience of Prophet Ismail (AS) teach us the essence of selflessness, devotion and steadfastness in the face of trials,” Omar Abdullah said.
He expressed hope that this auspicious occasion will further strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, mutual brotherhood, amity and tranquility across the region.
The Chief Minister also prayed for sustained peace, harmony and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.

*Firecracker Sale, Use Banned in Kupwara Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha*

*DM cites public health, safety concerns; directs police for strict enforcement*

Kupwara, Jun 6 (JKNS): District Magistrate Kupwara Ayushi Sudan on Friday imposed a complete ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across the district on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, citing concerns over public health, air pollution, and public safety.

As per the official order a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, the district administration observed that the use of firecrackers during festive occasions leads to significant noise and air pollution, causing harm to health and property, and creating public discomfort. "In the interest of public safety, it has become imperative to restrict the use and sale of firecrackers," the order reads.

Invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), the District Magistrate said the ban will remain effective during the forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations.

Order directs the Senior Superintendents of Police for Kupwara and Handwara to ensure strict enforcement of the directive in both letter and spirit. (JKNS)

Srinagar, June 06: Terming the completion of the Udhampur-Baramulla rail link a "historic moment," BJP Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Altaf Thakur today expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling the project a "precious Eid gift" for the people of the Union Territory.

In a statement issued to the press, Thakur said, “The Udhampur-Baramulla railway connectivity is not just a feat of engineering but a symbol of hope, development, and national integration. This is truly a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir.”

He added that the ambitious rail project will revolutionise travel in the region, boost tourism, and open up economic opportunities for remote areas. “This is yet another testament to PM Modi’s unwavering commitment to the development and progress of J&K,” he said.

Thakur hailed the project as one of the most significant infrastructure achievements in recent times and said it will benefit people from all walks of life, especially those from the far-flung and economically weaker regions.

“PM Modi’s vision of connecting Kashmir to the rest of India through modern transport networks is becoming a reality. The rail link is indeed a priceless Eid gift for the people of J&K,” he added.

The Udhampur-Baramulla rail line, passing through challenging Himalayan terrain, is regarded as a vital strategic and developmental initiative, aimed at improving connectivity and integration of the region with the rest of the country.
