Massive Fire Breaks Out in Aramwari Rajbagh Area, Multiple Houses Damaged

Srinagar, July 20, A massive fire broke out this evening in the Aramwari locality of Rajbagh, near Zero Bridge behind Modern Hospital, causing damage to residential structures.

According to local residents, the fire initially started at the house of Ghulam Mohammad Dar and rapidly spread to two adjacent houses. They alleged that the delay in the arrival of fire tenders allowed the flames to engulf nearby structures, resulting in more damage.

Fire and Emergency Services teams are currently on the job, working to control the blaze and prevent further spread. Thick smoke and high flames were seen rising from the area, prompting panic among locals.

The cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed. More details are awaited.

Restore Statehood in J&K; Condemn Police Manhandling of Rajouri MLA: Manpreet Singh Mani

Jammu & Kashmir – Indian Youth Congress (IYC) Secretary Manpreet Singh Mani today demanded the immediate restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir and strongly condemned the shameful manhandling of an elected Cong MLA Iftekhar Ahmed by police officials.

Speaking to the media, Singh said, “It is outrageous and unacceptable that a public representative—elected by the people—can be treated with such disrespect and aggression by the police.

He asserted that this act is not just an attack on an individual, but an assault on the institution of democracy itself. “The police force is meant to serve and protect—not intimidate and suppress. This kind of high-handedness only fuels the growing disconnect between the administration and the public.”

Highlighting the broader political context, Singh reiterated the demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir. Mani said abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state in August 2019 have left the region disempowered, voiceless, and administratively stifled. “The people of Jammu & Kashmir have been reduced to mere spectators in the governance of their own land,” he said. “The promises made by the BJP have not translated into meaningful change on the ground. Instead, we see rising unemployment, curtailed civil liberties, and alienation among the youth.”
“The people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve dignity, respect & representation—Singh concluded.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President Surinder Singh Channi today reiterated the Congress party’s firm demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the central government of having "destroyed" the former state's constitutional identity in 2019. Addressing the media at Tral, Channi said, “In 2019, the state of Jammu & Kashmir was demolished. A U-turn was made in terms of governance, and since then, Congress has stood firmly for the return of statehood.”
He emphasized that Congress leaders, from the Rajya Sabha to the streets, have been raising their voice for the constitutional rights of the people of J&K. Referring to recent developments, he pointed out that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi had written a joint letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to reinstate Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood. Channi said the protest movement to demand restoration of statehood would now intensify, with senior party leaders, including ex-MLAs and ex-ministers planning to travel to New Delhi and stage a sit-in at Jantar Mantar.

Sarah Hayat Shah:- It is truly unfortunate that Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq Sahib is placed under house arrest on Fridays to prevent him from exercising his duties as a religious leader of Kashmir. The LG administration must recognize that Article 25 of the Indian Constitution guarantees all citizens the fundamental right to freedom of religion. So why this step-motherly treatment?
