Israeli forces killed more than 780 Palestinians in Gaza since ‘ceasefire’

The Ministry of Health in Gaza says Israeli strikes across the strip killed five Palestinians on Monday.

They include three people killed in the shelling of a police checkpoint in southern Khan Younis, and another in a drone strike in the central Bureij refugee camp. The fifth person was killed in a strike on a roundabout in the Zeitoun neighbourhood near northern Gaza City.

The ministry said that more than 780 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes across the Strip since Israel agreed to a “ceasefire” in October last year.

Rat poison found in some baby food jars in Central Europe leads to recall

Vienna, Apr 20: Countries across Central Europe pulled baby food off the shelves Monday after rat poison was discovered in some jars of the HiPP brand over the weekend.

Austria's health minister told parents, kindergartens and day care centres to use utmost caution when feeding young children HiPP. The company recalled some of its baby food jars because samples there, as well as in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, tested positive for rat poison.

Authorities believe tampering occurred in 190-gram (6.7-ounce) jars of baby food made with carrots and potatoes for 5-month-old children that were sold at SPAR supermarkets in Austria. The first sample tested positive on Saturday.

On Monday, Austrian authorities said they were searching for a second jar of baby food that may have been poisoned. It may have been sold at a Spar supermarket in the eastern town of Eisenstadt, Austrian news agency APA reported.

“It is deeply disturbing that someone is apparently willing to endanger the health of babies for criminal motives,” Health Minister Korinna Schumann told APA.

Uncertainty prevailed over the much-touted second round of peace talks between the US and Iran on Monday, amidst exhibitory brinkmanship by both sides.

The two sides are expected to meet in the coming days in Islamabad, for which Pakistani authorities have taken elaborate security measures.

A two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire on Wednesday.

On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that his country has yet to decide whether to attend the next round of talks with the US.

Earlier, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran was continuing negotiations with the US but remained ready to take “necessary measures”, amid fears of renewed escalation.

On the other side, US President Donald Trump said the US Navy targeted an Iranian ship trying to evade the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Addressing a weekly press briefing in Tehran on Monday, Baqaei said, “As of now, while I am at your service, we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard.”

The foreign ministry spokesman elaborated that the US was not serious about pursuing diplomacy, citing “violations” of their two-week ceasefire.

"While claiming diplomacy and readiness for negotiations, the US is carrying out behaviours that do not in any way indicate seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic process,” he said.

He highlighted that the US attack on the Iranian cargo ship early on Monday, the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and delays in implementing a ceasefire in Lebanon were all “clear violations of the ceasefire.”

“Regarding the issue of transferring enriched uranium, neither during this period of negotiations nor before has transferring it to the United States been discussed,” Baqaei said.

A passenger bus rolled down a hillside in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Monday, leaving 21 people dead and 29 others injured, officials said.

The bus crushed an auto-rickshaw before landing upside down on the road below. Officials said those travelling in the auto-rickshaw sustained injuries.

An Army convoy passing along the hilly stretch led the rescue operation after the driver of the private bus lost control while negotiating a blind curve near the hilltop Kagort village in the Ramnagar area around 10 am.

The bus was carrying 50 passengers, mostly those heading to their daily jobs, from Ramnagar to Udhampur.

The rescue operation proved extremely challenging as the vehicle had been reduced to a mangled heap of iron, with its top portion almost completely torn off.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary escaped unhurt in an attack by a gunman outside a marriage hall in the outskirts of Jammu on Wednesday night, officials said.

The accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Purani Mandi, was overpowered by security guards and was whisked away for questioning, they said.

The incident took place at posh Greater Kailash locality of Jammu when Abdullah and the deputy chief minister were coming out of a marriage function, the officials said.

They said the accused, who is in his 70s, was waiting outside the venue and tried to fire on Abdullah. However, two police personnel – an inspector and a sub-inspector – overpowered him but he still managed to fire one shot before he was disarmed and taken into custody.

Israel may be using AI-driven targeting with little human oversight, drawing comparisons between strikes in Gaza and Tehran.

Example cited: Police Park in Tehran was reportedly bombed after AI may have flagged it as a police-related site due to its name, despite being just a public park.

Social Media Claims Iran Used Painted Decoy Airplanes to Deceive US and Israeli Strikes

Social media posts on X claim that Iran painted fake airplanes on runways using thermal paint as decoys to deceive US and Israeli strikes into targeting them instead of real aircraft. Users debate the video evidence as potential AI-generated propaganda, reference 'The Art of War' tactics, and note that real aircraft were moved to underground bases beforehand.
