Madhan first visited the Matrimandir when he was just a child in kindergarten, brought by his school for a field trip. At the time, it was just a place — quiet, golden, mysterious.

Now, as an adult, the Matrimandir has become his anchor.
When life becomes overwhelming, he goes there to forget everything.
A few moments of silence… and he’s back to centre.

🌍 This web series is a human experiment, exploring how Aurovilians personally connect with the soul of Auroville — the Matrimandir.
The dream? To one day interview every citizen of Auroville — to reveal our shared ground in the quest for human unity.

🕊️ “Sometimes I lost track of time... inside the Matrimandir.”
🎥 Meet Andres in this episode of Matrimandir & I

Andres first heard about Auroville in 2011 while in India on a student visa. Curious and open-hearted, he visited several times before finally volunteering for a full year in 2015. That year changed his life — every morning at 4 am, he meditated inside the Matrimandir.
The space was so profound, so still, that time disappeared.
Sometimes, he stayed too long… and got in trouble for it.

💫 Matrimandir & I is a human experiment — a journey to uncover how Aurovilians personally relate to the soul of Auroville, the Matrimandir. It is our hope that this sacred space can be the common ground for human unity.

📍 The Matrimandir — meaning Temple of the Mother — was envisioned by The Mother as a symbol of the Divine’s answer to humanity’s deepest aspiration. A golden sphere rising from the earth, it calls for silence, consciousness, and inner transformation.

Helen arrived in Auroville in 2008 and was surprised to learn that the Matrimandir had only just been completed. When she discovered the story behind its construction, those four decades suddenly seemed short. For her, the Matrimandir is more than a monument — it's a living journey of human aspiration and perseverance.

In this episode of Matrimandir & I, we meet Serena, whose first glimpse of the Matrimandir came through a photograph—in a magazine at London Airport. She was headed to India, and by chance, Pondicherry was on her itinerary.

One day, she rented a bicycle and rode out to Auroville. She saw the golden globe from the viewing point… then rode back.

What seemed like a brief encounter turned into something far deeper.
Years later, Matrimandir became a part of her being—a place of belonging, of peace, of transformation.
