Manipur stands at a critical crossroads today. The question - NRC before Census or Census first? Is not just about policy, but about people, peace, and responsibility.

On one side, the approach emphasizes NRC first, focusing on identifying illegal immigration, protecting indigenous identity, and addressing demographic concerns. On the other, the call for Census first highlights the need for accurate data, inclusive governance, and rebuilding trust between communities.

But beyond these approaches lies a deeper reality: lives have been lost, families displaced, homes destroyed, and fear continues to divide communities. The prolonged conflict has already taken a heavy toll, and every delayed decision adds to the uncertainty.

This is not just a debate of “what comes first” it is a question of leadership and accountability.

Imphal, February 20: The Government of Manipur has appointed Lt. General (Retd.) L. Nishikanta Singh as Advisor (Coordination) to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur. The decision was approved during a Cabinet meeting held on February 17.

According to official sources, the appointment will be for a period of one year with immediate effect. The Government stated that the appointment has been made in public interest to strengthen coordination and administrative efficiency at the highest level of the State Government.

Lt. General (Retd.) L. Nishikanta Singh brings with him vast experience from his distinguished service in the armed forces. His role as Advisor (Coordination) is expected to enhance inter-departmental coordination and support the Chief Minister’s Office in matters requiring strategic planning and effective implementation.

Further details regarding the scope of responsibilities and terms of engagement are expected to be notified separately.
