Full Name: Nambalatt Narayanankutty MenonStage Name: Unni Menon (born 2 December 1955 in Valanchery, Kerala, though some sources list 1957–58)

Early Life: Grew up in Guruvayur (Thrissur district), schooled in Palakkad, and graduated in Physics from Government Victoria College, Palakkad.

Began his career in the early 1980s with Ilaiyaraaja composer B. A. Chidambaranath. His debut "Amudhum Thenum" was unreleased, but "Pon maane kobam eno" became a notable hit in 1984.

His major breakthrough came in 1992 with the iconic song "Pudhu Vellai Mazhai" from Mani Ratnam’s Roja, composed by A. R. Rahman. This performance catapulted him into fame and earned him many further opportunities.

Unni Menon collaborated closely with A. R. Rahman, contributing vocals to nearly 25–27 popular tracks across films such as Karuththamma (1994) and Minsaara Kanavu (1997).

Malayalam Music & Albums

He gained popularity in Malayalam cinema working with music director Shyam, with hits like "Olangal Thaalam Thullumbol" and "Kaayampoo Korthu Tharum". Later, his Malayalam film career went through a quiet phase.

During that period, he focused on devotional and private albums—Paanchajanyam, Raagageethi, Raaga Lahari, and Saranamanthram—earning acclaim in Malayalam devotional music.
