Giorgio Armani, a fashion paragon of sophistication and success, has died. He was 91.

Throughout his monumental 50-plus-year career, the designer married Hollywood glamour with Italian tailoring to build a vast, independent luxury empire. After launching his company in 1975 at the age of 41, Armani built an empire, achieving a level of fame and success to which few designers have ever come close. The name Giorgio Armani transcended the man to become a cultural shorthand for suave sophistication and success.

Classics revisited 🎈

Catch James Dean's Giant (1956, dir. George Stevens, 201 mins) tomorrow at 06:30 pm only at Regal Cinema in Mumbai!

Nominated for 10 Oscars, Giant stars Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson in a sweeping saga of jealousy, racism and the clash of cultures set in the vast Texas oilfields.

Wealthy rancher Bick Benedict (Hudson) and dirt-poor cowboy Jett Rink (Dean) both woo Leslie Lynnton (Taylor), a beautiful young woman from Maryland who is new to Texas. She marries Benedict, but she is shocked by the racial bigotry of the white Texans against the local people of Mexican descent. Meanwhile, Rink discovers oil on a small plot of land, and while he uses his vast, new wealth to buy all the land surrounding the Benedict ranch, the Benedict's disagreement over prejudice fuels conflict that runs across generations.

Giant remains one of the most beloved works of director George Stevens, who won an Academy Award for the film. The film has now been restored in 4K.

This screening is a part of James Dean - Return of the Rebel - FHF’s weekly screenings. The screening is open to all. Gates will shut at 06:30 pm sharp. No latecomers will be allowed.

Pattathuvila Karunakaran, the renowned fiction writer in Malayalam, is one of the classic discoveries of K Balakrishnan, the extraordinary editor of Kaumudi weekly. His first and other famous stories were published in Kaumudi weekly and Kaumudi Onam Special. Whenever Kaumudi Balakrishnan made visits, as part of literary tours, to Kozhikode, where Pattathuvila based, he made it a point to meet his dear and affectionate friend ' Podiyan ' ( as Pattathuvila fondly called ).

On his death anniversary, we salute Comrade P. Krishna Pillai, the founding secretary of the CPI in Kerala.

A fearless fighter against feudal oppression and colonial rule, his whole life was dedicated for the cause of the toiling masses. His sacrifice, vision and organisational ability continue to inspire our struggles for justice, equality and unity.
