SD | CoMSO Mobilises Support for Garo Community in Shillong

The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has announced a public meeting to be held at Motphran on March 11, 2026, to express solidarity with the people of Garo Hills and discuss concerns regarding the alleged influx of outsiders into the region.

The organisation has called on indigenous residents and members of the Khasi community of Hynniewtrep to attend the gathering and show support for the Garo community.

The issue has gained attention ahead of the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections 2026. CoMSO said the meeting will focus on protecting the interests and rights of indigenous communities in the state.

The organisation also referred to recent incidents of unrest in parts of Garo Hills, which have heightened tensions in the region
