Another shocking incident in Barak Valley.
The Anipur Bridge in Sribhumi collapsed on Wednesday morning.

After the collapse of Harang Bridge at Bangarpar and Bhaga Sherkhan Bridge at Bhaga, this repeated failure clearly shows a serious administrative lapse. How many more bridges must fall before accountability is fixed?

Despite earlier warnings and previous collapses, overloaded dumpers continue to ply freely. If weight restrictions are imposed, why are they not enforced? If structural audits are conducted, why are weak bridges not strengthened in time?

This is not just about infrastructure.
This is about public safety, connectivity, and economic survival of Barak Valley.

Each collapse disrupts:
• Daily commuters
• Students and patients
• Trade and transport
• Emergency services

Barak Valley cannot be treated as a neglected zone where disasters repeat without consequence.

People demand:
1. Immediate high level inquiry into Anipur Bridge collapse
2. Public disclosure of structural audit reports
3. Strict enforcement against overloaded vehicles
4. Fixing responsibility on officials found negligent
5. Long term structural strengthening plan for all major bridges in the valley

The Government of Assam must give a clear and strong answer.
Repetition of such incidents is not coincidence. It is systemic failure.

Barak Valley deserves safe infrastructure, not repeated collapse stories.

Two Bangladeshi youths were shot dead by India’s Border Security Force along the Sylhet border in Companiganj, with officials saying the firing came from across the border while the victims were reportedly collecting betel nuts near the frontier.

Two Bangladeshi youths were killed in firing by India's Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Sylhet's Companiganj upazila today (19 December).

Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, confirmed the deaths to The Business Standard, stating that the firing originated from across the border. The incident took place at around noon near the Damdam border point in Ranikhai union.

The deceased were identified as Ashikur, 19, son of Boran Uddin, and Moshahid, 22, son of late Roub Miah. Both were residents of Turung village, located east of the border.

The bodies have been sent to the Upazila Health Complex for further procedures.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police, the two youths had reportedly entered about 600 yards into Indian territory near Main Pillar 1260 at Parihat. Local sources suggested the duo went across the border to collect betel nuts from a garden when BSF personnel opened fire on them.

Lt Col Nazmul Islam, commander of the 48 BGB Sylhet Battalion, confirmed he was informed of the killings.
