JKPCC Organizes Workers' Convention in Baramulla to Reiterate Demand for Statehood

Baramulla, June 29, 2025 — The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held a significant workers' convention today in Baramulla under the banner “Humari Riyasat, Humara Haq” (Our State, Our Right). The event was presided over by JKPCC President Shri Tariq Hameed Karra, who reaffirmed the party's unwavering demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a large gathering of party workers and local leaders, Shri Karra emphasized the historical and constitutional importance of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s identity and rights. He called upon the central government to respect the aspirations of the people and reinstate the democratic dignity of the region.

The convention saw the participation of several senior party leaders and prominent figures, including MLA Adv. Irfan Hafeez Lone, Taj Mouhidin, Haji Ab. Rasheed, Nisar Ahmad Mandoo, Abid Kashmiri, Dr. Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan), Suhail Bukhari, and Mir Fiyaz, among others. Their presence underlined the unity and resolve within the party to continue advocating for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The event was hosted by District Congress Committee (DCC) President Baramulla, Mir Iqbal, along with several other dedicated party members who played an instrumental role in organizing the convention.

JKPCC leaders reiterated that the restoration of full statehood is not just a political demand but a constitutional necessity. The party vowed to continue its peaceful struggle to ensure justice and democratic rights for the people of the region.

In a significant political development, senior leaders and former cabinet ministers Taj Mohi U Din and G.M. Saroori, along with DDC Vice Chairman (Kupwara) Haji Farooq Mir Lolabi, rejoined the Indian National Congress today. Their return was warmly welcomed by the party’s senior leadership during a function held in Srinagar.

AICC General Secretary Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, and AICC General Secretary & CLP Leader G.A. Mir extended a heartfelt welcome to the returning leaders and congratulated them on their homecoming to the Congress fold. They expressed hope that the return of these seasoned leaders would further strengthen the party in Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain stated that several other individuals who had previously left the Congress or joined other political parties are now in touch with the JKPCC President, CLP Leader, and himself. He added that these individuals are likely to return to the party after due process.

Taj Mohi U Din and G.M. Saroori, both of whom have served as Cabinet Ministers and won multiple elections on Congress tickets, acknowledged that leaving the Congress was a serious mistake. They openly admitted that their decision to quit the party was misguided and expressed sincere apologies. Haji Farooq Mir, who had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla unsuccessfully and currently serves as DDC Vice Chairman, also reiterated his commitment to the Congress.

The returning leaders expressed complete faith in the leadership of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra, and CLP Leader G.A. Mir. They praised their leadership and pledged to work with renewed dedication to strengthen the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.

Several other prominent Congress leaders and functionaries were present at the event and welcomed the leaders back into the party. These included AICC Secretaries Manoj Yadav, Deviya Maderna, and Shahnawaz Choudhary; former PCC President Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed; former MP Ch. Lal Singh; legislators Nizam Ud Din Bhat and Irfan Hafeez Lone; former legislator Haji Abdul Rashid Dar; PCC Treasurer Rajnish Sharma; Surinder Singh Channi; Mahila Congress President Shameema Raina; IYC Secretary Ajaz Chowdhary; former MLA Gh. Raza; Abdul Gani Khan; Nissar Ahmad Mundoo; GSO Abid Imtiyaz Bhat; Shaheena Neda; Irfan Naqib; Mohammad Iqbal Mir; Fayaz Ahmad Mir; Dr. Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan); Suhail Bukhari; Arshid Tantray; Umer Jaan; Tanveer Hussain Khan; and many other senior leaders.

The event concluded on a high note of unity and commitment to rebuilding the Congress in the region.
