First Batch of Amarnath Yatra 2025 Pilgrims Flagged Off Amid Devotional Chants

Jammu, July 2: Amid the resonant chants of “Bum Bum Bhole” and “Har Har Mahadev”, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of Shri Amarnath Yatra 2025 pilgrims from the Yatri Niwas base camp at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, on Wednesday.

The atmosphere was charged with devotion and emotion as thousands of enthusiastic pilgrims embarked on the spiritual journey to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine nestled in the Himalayas of south Kashmir. The Lieutenant Governor extended his best wishes to the devotees for a safe and spiritually fulfilling yatra.

Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha emphasized the administration's unwavering commitment to ensuring a smooth and secure pilgrimage. “All arrangements have been meticulously put in place for the comfort, safety, and well-being of the pilgrims,” he said.

Security has been heightened along the entire route, with multi-tier arrangements involving central and state forces. This year's yatra is expected to witness a large turnout, reflecting the deep spiritual and cultural significance the pilgrimage holds in the hearts of devotees from across the country.

The annual Amarnath Yatra, which leads to the sacred cave shrine housing the naturally formed ice lingam of Lord Shiva, will continue for 52 days, concluding on Shravan Purnima (Raksha Bandhan), the traditional closing day.

Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi: The Silent Sentinel of Kashmiri Conscience

By[ Kirti Dhar ]

In the annals of post-independence India, few individuals have lived as quietly and impacted as profoundly as Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi. A man of humble habits, fierce patriotism, and unshakable moral conviction, Vaishnavi Ji did not just lead a community — he preserved its very soul.

Born in 1925, amid the spiritual landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir, Amar Nath Vaishnavi’s life was defined not by ambition, but by sewa (service). He walked a path where every step was guided by duty — to the nation, to his Dharma, and to his people.

A Life Rooted in Nationalism and Selflessness

Vaishnavi Ji began his journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the 1940s, rising to become Sanghchalak of Kashmir and Ladakh. As a young man, he witnessed the complex political dynamics of Kashmir and chose clarity over confusion: Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always be an integral part of India.

He actively participated in the Praja Parishad Movement, and later, the JP Movement, for which he faced imprisonment. Unlike many, he never sought headlines; he sought truth, justice, and national unity.

The turning point came in 1990, when the Kashmir Valley erupted in violence, and hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee overnight — their homes abandoned, temples desecrated, and memories uprooted.

In that bleak hour, while many leaders disappeared behind security walls, Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi emerged as the torchbearer. He organized relief camps, founded Sahayata Samitis, provided educational support for thousands of displaced children, and became the most consistent and credible voice of a scattered people.

His leadership wasn’t political — it was deeply personal. He walked through the heat of refugee camps, helped struggling families rebuild dignity, and never once took a penny for personal comfort.

Restoring Identity Through Culture

A devout Sanatani, Vaishnavi Ji saw culture as a form of resistance. He revived Martand, the oldest Kashmiri Pandit publication, to become the voice of a voiceless community. He initiated mass thread ceremonies (yagnopavit), collective weddings, and worked tirelessly to restore desecrated temples in Srinagar, often walking alone under curfew just to light a diya.

He believed that when rituals survive, roots remain — and his efforts became the cultural glue that held the exiled community together.

What set Amar Nath Vaishnavi apart was his simplicity. He lived alone. Cooked his own meals. Refused personal favors. His home had no guards, no luxury, only books, bhajans, and quiet strength. People referred to him with reverence as “Lalla Ji” — not because he demanded it, but because he earned it.

His was not the voice of protest, but the voice of conscience — calm, reasoned, and full of resolve.

Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi passed away on July 1, 2012, leaving behind no heirs, no estate, but a legacy larger than any material monument.

Today, as Kashmir slowly rediscovers its identity, the role of this saintly warrior is being remembered by scholars, activists, and youth alike. His birth and death anniversaries are marked as days of reflection, and his life is studied not just by Kashmiri Pandits, but by all who seek to understand what it means to lead with integrity, sacrifice, and spiritual .
A Flame That Will Not Die

In an age where activism is loud and self-serving, Pandit Amar Nath Vaishnavi remains a timeless symbol of quiet leadership. He did not seek limelight — he carried it within.

Let history remember him not just as a leader of the displaced, but as a patriot monk, a cultural custodian, and the eternal flame of Kashmiri Sanatan Dharma.

Tracing the Lost Abode of the Pandavas in Kashmir:

By Kirti Dhar :

Baramulla–Srinagar Highway, Jammu & Kashmir – Nestled in the serene folds of the Himalayas, away from the bustle of the modern world, lies an ancient and largely forgotten relic of the Mahabharata era — a site that locals fondly call Pandav Lari, meaning the Abode of the Pandavas.

This mysterious location, situated along the Baramulla–Srinagar National Highway, is believed to have been a temporary shelter for the five Pandava brothers — Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva — during their years of exile (vanvaas). According to regional folklore and oral traditions passed down through generations, the Pandavas journeyed deep into the northern Himalayan belt, and it was in these sacred valleys of Kashmir that they built a refuge to withstand the harsh seasons and meditate in peace.

The site is dotted with natural caves and ancient stone formations, resembling early rock shelters. The caves are believed to have been inhabited by the Pandavas, who are revered not only as warriors but also as dharmic icons and spiritual beings. These caves, though modest in appearance, hold deep cultural and historical significance for locals, historians, and pilgrims alike.

Where Mythology Meets Geography
Kashmir has long been referred to as Sharada Peeth — the land of wisdom and spiritual depth. Ancient scriptures like the Nilamata Purana and travelogues of Chinese pilgrims such as Xuanzang hint at Kashmir being a spiritual hub even during Mahabharata times. The presence of sites like Pandav Lari further strengthens this spiritual and mythological legacy.

While mainstream Indian mythology often centers around places in the Indo-Gangetic plains, Kashmir’s contribution to epic history is rich, though underexplored. Pandov Larrei stands as a silent testimony to that forgotten past, echoing tales of courage, exile, dharma, and divine endurance.

Surprisingly, this site remains unlisted under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and lacks formal recognition or protection. The absence of documentation, signage, or preservation measures risks the erasure of a site that deserves national heritage status.

Cultural activists and scholars have repeatedly called for archaeological studies and conservation efforts. If researched properly, Pandov Larrei could become an important stop on India’s mythological tourism map, offering spiritual travelers a glimpse into the Himalayas' Mahabharata connection.

Visitors who chance upon the site describe an uncanny peace, with the landscape offering both visual serenity and spiritual stillness. The whispering pine trees, the quietude of the hills, and the presence of these stone shelters ignite the imagination — as though the spirit of Arjuna’s focus or Bhima’s strength still lingers in the air.

For the people of Baramulla and adjoining villages, Pandov Lari is not just a legend, it’s an inheritance — a reminder of Kashmir’s ancient connection to Bharat’s civilizational soul.

NCEEA-2025 Concludes with Roadmap for Sustainable Farming Innovations

RAMBAN, June 29: The three day National Congress on Entomology and Emerging Agrotechnologies (NCEEA-2025) in which 115 participants from all over the country took part, concluded on Sunday at the scenic alpine meadows of Sanasar, here with a strong set of recommendations to transform Indian agriculture through sustainable practices for Viksit Bharat.

Held from June 27–29, the conference brought together experts to discuss eco-friendly pest management, climate-resilient farming, and region-specific agrotechnologies. Organized by the Entomological Science Academy in collaboration with SKUAST Jammu and IIT Jammu, the event emphasized aligning agricultural education, research, and extension with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to foster innovation and employability.

In a special virtual address, Poonam Jasrotia, ADG (Plant Protection & Biosafety), ICAR, New Delhi, highlighted the need for region-specific technologies to enhance hill agriculture, particularly for indigenous crops such as Anardana, Kasrod, Kaladi, potatoes, and minor fruits. She stressed the importance of advanced pest surveillance, precision farming, and value-added processing to boost productivity.
The conference outlined several key recommendations, including the promotion of biological control using local bioagents and the mainstreaming of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). It advocated integration of entomology with cutting age technologies like AI, genomes and biotechnology. Participants called for stronger biotech research to develop stress-tolerant crops, the integration of renewable energy with Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), and improved agrotech support for Ramban’s unique crops.

Emphasis was also placed on developing robust post-harvest value chains, researching emerging threats like invasive species, and fostering agro-ecosystem conservation. Collaborative platforms linking farmers, scientists, and industries were proposed to nurture future-ready agro-entrepreneurs.
Rakesh Kumar Gupta, President of the Entomological Science Academy, reaffirmed the society’s allegiance to sustainable and technology driven agricultural growth in J&K and beyond. The academy expressed gratitude to SKUAST Jammu’s Vice Chancellor and university officials for their support in organizing the event.

Special gratitude and appreciation was extended to Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohd. Alyas Khan for his gracious presence and also for the support district administration Ramban, under his leadership, provided. The organisers also appreciated PY Resorts, Sanasar, for logistic support and outstanding arrangements.

GIRIJA TICKOO:
SHAHEED AUR SHAKTI KA PRATEEK.

Kirti Dhar :

Girija Tickoo: The Cry for Justice That Echoes from Tikker, Kupwara
In the lush green valley of Kashmir, where the Himalayas kiss the sky and rivers narrate timeless tales, lies a wound that refuses to heal. Among the thousands who suffered during the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, the story of Girija Tickoo remains one of the most brutal and heartbreaking chapters of that dark era.

Born in Tikker village of Kupwara (Roots in Kandi Khass) and married in Bandipora, Girija was a devoted daughter, a hardworking woman, and a symbol of resilience. She served as a laboratory assistant at a government school in Trehgam Kupwara , carrying dreams in her eyes for a better future, not just for herself, but for her community and her homeland.

When militancy engulfed Kashmir in 1990, countless Pandit families, was forced to flee their homes. Girija did not migrate from Bandipora.

in June 1990, she decided to return to Kupwara her village, for a brief visit, believing that peace had returned. It was a journey of hope—one that tragically turned into her last.

While on her way back from a friend’s home (Tikker), she was abducted by terrorists. What followed was one of the most barbaric atrocities ever committed against a woman. She was brutally gang-raped, tortured, and then killed—her body mutilated using a mechanical saw. This inhuman act shook the conscience of every Kashmiri Pandit and every Indian who came to know of it—though the news was silenced for decades.

There was no FIR, no arrest, and no justice. Her family—shattered and threatened—fled. For years, her story remained buried beneath the weight of silence and denial.

But Girija’s voice didn’t die. It rose from the ashes of her pain. Her name came to light through efforts by the Kashmiri Pandit community.

Girija Tickoo was not just a victim. She was a martyr of truth, a symbol of what was lost, and a voice that continues to echo in the hearts of those seeking justice for the displaced and forgotten. Her story is not just about death—it’s about courage, sacrifice, and the unresolved cry for justice in Kashmir.

May we never forget. May we never remain silent again.
