On April 22, 2025, a brutal terrorist attack took place in Baisaran, near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. A group of Hindu tourists was targeted by terrorists, who opened fire while the visitors were enjoying the scenic spot. At least 26 people were killed and more than 20 were injured in the firing.
The victims included tourists from different parts of India, and some of them were from Odisha. The attack happened in a remote hill area only accessible by foot or pony, which made rescue efforts more difficult.
A Pakistan-backed group called The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. The incident caused chaos, with terrified tourists trying to escape the gunfire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and said those responsible will be brought to justice. Union Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar to lead a top-level security review. The attack has sparked outrage and grief across the country, especially in Odisha, where some of the victims were from.
