Every Independence Day, I come across several posts about how you don’t need a day to love your country and how it should not be a day full of grandeur but a lifetime of progress and improvements.
Well, I both agree and disagree. I agree that you don’t need a special day to love your country and that it should result in a constant improvement in the well being of the people. I disagree with the point that it should not be about grandeur on the day. You don’t need a special day to love your partner, but you celebrate anniversaries, don’t you? You don’t need a special day to pamper yourself, but you celebrate birthdays, don’t you?
You don’t need a special day to reflect and improve on things that you lack, but you need a day of celebration of the things that you have. To fill a sense of pride and love towards the land that gave you everything. Today is not about any political or social ideology. It’s about the land, my land, and the people who have fallen protecting it or are out there in unfavourable conditions doing the same. People who have no idea about your existence; out there trying to keep you safe from the dangers of the world.
Today we enter the 75th year of our independence. We have come a long way from where the Mughals and then the British left us. While we are entering the 75th year of our independence, we are a civilisation that has survived for 1000s of years. Those many years of wisdom and the youthfulness of the nation will only take us forward from hereon.
In the end, all I would like to do is quote Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji,
Happy Independence Day folks.
Jai Hind!
Jai Bharat!
