*Assam Police (NER/ER) under IGP (NER) and Military Intelligence (Kolkata based) Joint Operation Against ULFA (I) OGWs in Upper Assam*

With reference to previous coordinated intelligence-based operation conducted by Assam Police (NER/ER) and Military Intelligence on 25 October 2024.

From October 26 to October 30 2024, a series of joint operation involving AssamPolice, Military Intelligence and Security Forces was launched in General Area of Charaideo, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia Districts of Upper Assam. This resulted in the apprehension of 05 x Over Ground Workers (OGWs)/ Linkmen namely Sonu Sonar of Jagun, Babul Dehungia of Tinsukia, Ashok Ali of Sibsagar District, Tonglong Konyak of Mon District of Nagaland, Ajit Changmai of Sibsagar District, Boiln Burah of Sibsagar and Kiran Sharma of Jagun, Dist Tinsukia, the key linkmen associated with ULFA (I) Commanders SS Maj Gen Arunodoy Dahotia and SS Brig Ganesh Lahon. Till now, total 10 OGWs have been apprehended.

The joint operation remains ongoing, as security forces aim to dismantle remaining entire network connected to ULFA (I) in the region. Authorities highlight the significance of the operation in countering insurgency threats of IED attacks during Republic Day 2025 and ensure stability in Assam.

1st Phase of Poll for General Election to Lok Sabha 2024 wherein 11-Sonitpur HPC is also scheduled to go to polls on 19th April 2024, the group training of engaged in Parliamentary Election 2024 for 11-Sonitpur HPC was organized today by the office of the District Election Officer, Sonitpur.

➡️The large-scale training program has been organized in two venues namely, Tezpur H.S. Government School and Tezpur College where more than 5000 polling personnel are trained today in total.

➡️The District Commissioner cm DEO of Sonitpur and RO of 11-Sonitpur HPC Deba Kumar Mishra visited both the training venues and interacted with the trainees.

Assam Muslim Marriage and divorce registration Act repeated. In preparation for the introduction of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill similar to Uttarakhand's, the Assam government has opted to revoke the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act of 1935.

During a late-night meeting on Friday, the State Cabinet endorsed the Assam Repealing Ordinance, 2024, aimed at rescinding the British-era marriage and divorce Act that pertains specifically to Muslims.
