After 5+ years in SEO, I’ve learned one thing: Ranking is not the same as being understood.
And AI search is making this difference even more important.
Earlier, SEO was heavily focused on questions like:
“Which keyword should I target?”
“What is the search volume?”
“How can I improve my ranking?”
But AI recommendations are changing the game.
When someone asks an AI:
“Which company is best for my requirement?”
The AI needs to understand the business context not just find a webpage containing relevant keywords.
It needs to understand:
→ What the business actually offers
→ Who it serves
→ Its expertise
→ Its location and market
→ Customer experiences
→ Brand reputation
→ What makes it different from competitors
This made me rethink how I approach SEO.
The future of SEO isn’t just about making pages rank.
It’s about making your entire digital presence understandable and trustworthy.
Your website + LinkedIn + social media + reviews + PR + directories + content + brand mentions should collectively tell the same story.
Because the question is no longer only:
“Can Google find my website?”
It is becoming:
“Can AI understand my business well enough to recommend it?”
That’s where I see the intersection of:
SEO + GEO + Brand Authority + Digital PR + Trust
And I believe this will become one of the biggest areas of focus for digital marketers over the next few years.
What are you focusing on right now Google rankings or AI visibility?
