TRAGIC: Family of Seven Found D*ad in Car After Consuming P*ison Due to 20 Crore Debt;
In a tragic incident that underscores the human cost of financial distress, seven members of the Mittal family from Dehradun died by su*c*de in Panchkula on Monday night after c*nsuming p*ison in a parked car.
The deceased include Praveen Mittal (41), his wife Reena, their children Dhruvika, Dalisha (11), and Hardik (14), along with Praveen's parents, Deshraj and Vimla.
According to police, a two-page note cited debt of 15-20 crore including over 1 crore owed to banks and death threats, indicating possible h by private moneylenders.
Praveen, originally from Hisar, settled in Panchkula in 2013. He once owned a scrap factory in Baddi, which was taken over by a bank due to loan defaults.
Later, his tour and travel business in Dehradun also collapsed, pushing him to work as a taxi driver.
Despite maintaining a cheerful image, the family faced severe financial setbacks, losing their properties and vehicles.
They reportedly shifted homes several times to escape ongoing threats from private lenders.
Notably, on Monday, the family had attended a Hanuman Katha program before stopping their car, Hyundai Aura around 10:00 PM.
A passerby, Harsh, noticed Praveen trembling outside the vehicle, saying, "We took přison due to huge debt," moments before collapsing.
However, all seven were declared dead at Ojas Hospital.
The note also blamed the lack of support from "rich relatives" and named cousin Sandeep Agarwal to conduct the last rites.
However, according to reports, Praveen's nephew, Ankit Mittal, has challenged the financial distress claims and called for a deeper investigation.
Panchkula police are currently reviewing CCTV footage, the s*icide note, and digital evidence as part of the probe.
The tragedy has reignited calls for stronger regulation of private lenders, better access to formal credit, and mental health support for struggling families.
