Iran, long accused of stifling dissent and orchestrating widespread censorship, has intensified its crackdown on journalists, civil society actors, and political dissidents under the guise of safeguarding national security. The veil of wartime urgency, it would appear, has served well to mask a more sinister domestic agenda, writes Manu Shrivastava.

For the thousands of Indians who now call Canada home—whether as students pacing snow-lined campuses, professionals steering the country’s tech backbone, or families still finding their place between curry leaves and Canadian maple—something quietly monumental happened this week.

It has taken years of diplomatic friction, multiple international snubs, mounting evidence and, most pertinently, a resilient India refusing to relent — but at long last, Canada has conceded that its territory was indeed exploited by Khalistani elements to foster terrorism in India.

Some twin-engine failures make it to history books as miracles. Ahmedabad’s didn’t. No gliding, no soft landing, no survivors—just the cruel truth that even the most advanced aircraft can fall prey to impossible odds over unforgiving terrain, writes Gajanan Khergamker.

From fog-shrouded Chiloda in 1988 to the fiery wreckage of Meghani Nagar in 2025, Ahmedabad has witnessed two aviation disasters that exposed deep flaws in India's flight safety systems. Decades apart, these tragedies underscore a single truth: progress in aviation means little without vigilance, reform, and accountability, writes Prachi Desai.

A handful of residential associations across India have evolved from stakeholders to saboteurs—not by statutory expansion, but by strategic self-promotion. They brand themselves as the voice of the people while representing a gated minority. They cite public inconvenience while pushing private agendas. And now, emboldened by media manipulation and social amplification, they pursue proxy politics dressed up as participative democracy.

When the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) filed an affidavit before the Bombay High Court defending its long-planned public jetty project, it did more than just respond to a writ petition by a Colaba Residents Association. It exposed, albeit inadvertently, a far more corrosive phenomenon festering beneath the surface of urban civil life across India—a phenomenon where residential associations, many unregistered and some self-professed custodians of ‘public sentiment,’ conspire to stall governance under the veil of representation.

'Sebastiao'

Sebastiao is more than a man — he is the soul of a vanishing Goa. A feni-farmer by summer, fisherman the rest of the year, he moves with the rhythm of tides, not traffic. His three boats creak with memories as they stand next to a new age beach shack doling out trance music, he brews not just feni but legacy.

As Goa races ahead — its fields traded for resorts and folk songs drowned in EDM — Sebastiao stands still. The DraftCraft film Sebastiao captures this stillness, this quiet rebellion of tradition against the flash of modern tourism. He doesn't just make feni; he distills a way of life.

While others chase speed, Sebastiao holds on to slowness, to stories, to soil. In a land fast forgetting itself, he remains — the last sip of old Goa. Watch out for 'Sebastiao'
