🐦 Mumbai's Birds: A Story of Survival, Conservation & Hope 🌿
Mumbai is more than a city of skyscrapers—it's a living ecosystem that supports over 350 species of birds, from House Crows and Asian Koels to Greater Flamingos, Painted Storks, Kingfishers, and migratory visitors from across the world.
But these birds are facing increasing challenges. Rapid urbanisation, shrinking wetlands, mangrove destruction, pollution, habitat fragmentation, and climate change are causing many species to decline. While adaptable birds like crows and pigeons continue to thrive, several wetland, grassland, and migratory birds are losing the habitats they depend on.
The good news is that conservation efforts are making a difference. The Maharashtra State Forest Department, Thane Creek Flamingo Sanctuary, Bhandup Bird Park, BNHS, wildlife rescue organisations, and countless volunteers are working together to protect Mumbai's incredible birdlife through habitat restoration, scientific monitoring, rescue operations, and community awareness.

✅ Protect wetlands, mangroves, and green spaces.
✅ Plant native trees that support birds and insects.
✅ Never litter or dump waste into natural habitats.
✅ Avoid disturbing nesting birds and wildlife.
✅ Support local conservation and bird rescue organisations.
✅ Report injured birds to authorised rescue groups.
✅ Observe birds responsibly and inspire others to care.
Every bird has a role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. Every wetland, forest patch, and mangrove matters. The future of Mumbai's biodiversity depends on the choices we make today.
Let's ensure that future generations wake up to the songs of bulbuls, the calls of koels, the sight of flamingos, and the vibrant colours of parakeets and kingfishers.
