*Silluk Village Mourns the Passing of SSA Spokesperson Shri Kalom Ratan*

IPAK DIYUM

SILLUK VILLAGE, Nov 28:- Swachh Silluk Abhiyaan (SSA) — the recognised cleanest village initiative of East Siang district and a three-time consecutive cleanliness awardee — has suffered a deep loss today with the passing of its spokesperson, Shri Kalom Ratan, at his native home in Silluk village under Mebo circle. He was born in 1968.

The SSA Chairman, Shri Kepang Nong Borang, along with several social organisations and villagers from the area, attended the funeral and paid heartfelt tributes. They fondly remembered the immense social contributions made by Lt. Kalom Ratan throughout his lifetime.

Recalling the transformation journey of Silluk, the Chairman reflected on the condition of the village before 2019, when it was often referred to as a “cowdung village” and considered among the dirtiest in the region. However, with the formation of the Swachh Silluk Abhiyaan (SSA) in 2019, the village underwent a remarkable change. The team devoted itself to cleanliness drives, plantation activities, and campaigns against social evils and drug menace, ultimately reshaping the identity of Silluk into a model village.

Members of the SSA and the public remarked that Lt. Kalom Ratan was one of the key torchbearers of the movement — a dedicated figure whose commitment and leadership played a pivotal role in the village’s transformation. His demise is seen as a profound loss to the community and the cleanliness movement he so passionately championed.
