MANDAR LAD & SHREEYA PATIL TRIUMPH AT GOA STATE U-19 OPEN & GIRLS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2025

Mandar Lad and Shreeya Patil emerged as champions in the "Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Va Sanskrutik Mandal" Goa State U-19 Open and Girls Chess Championship cm Selection 2025
organised by Shree Ganesh Kala Krida Va Sanskrutik Mandal and Bicholim Taluka Chess Association; at the Mayem Village Panchayat Hall.

Mandar Lad delivered an excellant performance, scoring a perfect 7 out of 7 rounds to remain undefeated. He secured the title by defeating Chaitanya Gaonkar in the final round. Rajveer Patil secured the first runner-up position with 6 points, while Reuben Colaco was declared the second runner-up.

In the Girls category, Shreeya Patil clinched the title with an impressive 5.5 points out of 6 rounds. Anvi Desai and Israa Rikarty both scored 4.5 points, but due to a superior tie-break score, Anvi Desai finished as the runner-up, and Israa Rikarty took third place.

BASKETBALL REFEREES CLINIC HELD AT SALIGAO

Lourdes Basketball Club, in collaboration with the Goa Basketball Association (GBA), successfully organized a two-day Referees Clinic on 12th and 13th July at Lourdes Convent High School, Saligao.

The clinic witnessed enthusiastic participation from 20 young basketball players and enthusiasts keen to deepen their understanding of the game, along with existing referees who attended to refresh and update their knowledge.

Conducted by the highly experienced Olencio Dias, the sessions focused on game mechanics, referee signals, positioning, and rule interpretations—equipping participants with practical and theoretical foundation.

"The initiative represents a significant step towards strengthening the technical backbone of basketball in Goa by nurturing a well-trained pool of referees", stated Parind Nachinolkar, Goa Basketball Association secretary.

“It was heartening to see such passionate participation at the clinic. GBA remains committed to empowering local talent not just on the court, but also in officiating and technical roles that are vital for the sport’s development and progress”, he added.

ST. XAVIER’S COLLEGE, DHEMPE COLLEGE AND DON BOSCO COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING EXCEL AT INTER-COLLEGIATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP 2025-26

PANAJI: Goa University organised Inter-Collegiate Swimming Championship for Men and Women on July 18 at the S.A.G. Swimming Pool, Campal, Panaji. A total of ten events were held across both the Men's and Women's categories. A total of 25 colleges participated in the said championship.

The Best Swimmer (male) prize was bagged by A***n Sharma of Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar.

Best Swimmer (female) prize was awarded to Alaqua Agnelo Brito of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa.

The championship witnessed the following four new championship records - (Men)
• 200 M Free Style: A***n Sharma (2:10:38) Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar.
• 100 M Free Style: A***n Sharma (57:53) Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar.

CHESS TOURNAMENT CUM SELECTION AT MANGESHI

Ponda Taluka Chess Association in collaboration with Manguirish Youth Club, under the auspices of Goa Chess Association, will conduct Manguirish Youth Club All Goa U-13 (Open & Girls) State Chess Selection for Nationals and Championship 2025 from 1st to 3rd August at Wagle High School, Mangeshi.

Players born or or after 1st January 2012 are eligible to participate in the Open and Girls category.

The first round is at 2.45 pm. onwards, on 1st August. Top 6 players in U13 Open and U13 Girls category, will be awarded with cash prizes and trophies. Also players securing 7th to 10th rank, will be awarded trophies. The top 2 players in U7, U9 and U11 open and girls category, will be given trophies. Consolation prizes will be awarded to Ponda Taluka players. The last date to submit the entries, is 28th July.

GMC BAG INTER-COLLEGIATE CHESS TITLE

Goa Medical College, Bambolim, emerged champions in Inter-Collegiate Chess (Mix) Championship 2025-26 organised by Goa University at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, Goa University Campus, Taleigao on 15th & 16th July, 2025.

P.G. Goa University claimed the runners-up title while Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna finished third.

Best Player was awarded to Soham Naik from Goa Medical College.

A total of 45 teams participated in the 2 days Goa University’s Inter-Collegiate Chess (Mix) Championship 2025-26.

The Chief guest for the closing ceremony was Kunal Naik, Assistant Registrar (Medical and Allied), Goa University and Guest of Honour Dr. Satyavan Harmalkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports, Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim & Dattaram Pinge, FIDE Arbitrator, along with Balachandra B. Jadar, Asst. Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University presented trophies and Medals to the winners at the event.

ABHINAV CREATIONZ ANNOUNCES KONKANI LEARNING WORKSHOP

Abhinav Creationz has announced the launch of the 17th batch of its widely appreciated Konkani Learning Workshop, continuing its mission to promote the state’s mother tongue through interactive and accessible learning.

The workshop will be conducted online, with sessions scheduled from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, making it convenient for participants across age groups and professions. This new batch introduces 15 sessions, an upgrade from the earlier 12, offering more time for in-depth learning and engagement.

Mapusa Shuttlers Ranking Badminton: Ritika eyes triple crown; Shaheen, Amaira, Avni, Advait and Vishwa set for double crowns

PEDDEM: Ritika Chelluri stormed into three finals at the State Badminton Ranking Tournament for Sub Juniors and Juniors, organised by Mapusa Shuttlers in aegis with the Goa Badminton Association at the Badminton Hall, Peddem Sports Complex.

Ritika defeated Sufiya Shaikh 21-18, 21-18 in the Girls U19 singles semifinal, partnered with Shreya Mehta to edge Aarohi Coutoncar and Minoshka Pereira 17-21, 21-6, 21-18 in Girls U19 Doubles, and joined forces with Shaheen C K to dominate Arjun Bhagat and Aarohi 21-8, 21-14 in the Mixed Doubles semifinal.

In the U13 category, Amaira Dhumatker and Avni Khyalia marched into both singles and doubles finals. Amaira bounced back to upset top seed Pragya Audi 21-23, 21-14, 21-11, while Avni knocked out third seed Komal Kothari 21-13, 21-13. The duo then combined to oust Aditi Dhargalkar and Kanika Pai Vernekar 21-9, 21-11 in the Girls U13 Doubles. Meanwhile, Vishwa Parab kept his double crown hopes alive, in a comfortable 21-6, 21-12 win over sixth seed Krithik Reddy in the Boys U13 Singles semis, after already entering the Boys Doubles final with partner Samarth Sakhalkar. They defeated Daksh Kamat and Neil Punjani Bakshi 20-22, 21-15, 21-11, while Pratik Naik Borkar and Varun Sahakari overcame Adharved Balakrishnan and Rian Soares 21-15, 21-14.

In Boys U19 Singles, top seed Arjun Bhagat beat Shaheen C K 21-13, 21-13, and Advait Balakrishnan edged fifth seed Vansh Khedkar 21-17, 14-21, 21-18 to set up a high-voltage final. Advait also entered the Boys U19 Doubles final alongside Owais Tahasildar with a hard-fought 24-22, 21-12 win over Karthikeyan N and Shaurya Naik. Shaheen, partnering with Aswin Mannambalath, entered the same final by beating Soham Naik and Yousuf Shaikh 21-18, 21-9. In Girls U19 Doubles, Saanvi Audi and Synnovia Dsouza got past Shivanjali Thite and Sufiya Shaikh 23-21, 21-11, ensuring a thrilling title clash awaits.
