🪨 The Running Stone
This was a square-shaped stone, about one hand long and one hand wide, which always remained with Prophet Musa (peace be upon him). Through this blessed stone, two miracles of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) were revealed, and they are also mentioned in the Qur’an.
First Miracle:
The first amazing event related to this stone, which was in fact a miracle of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), is that this stone ran away with his clothes. This incident itself became the means of revealing a great truth.
The detailed story is as follows:
The people of Bani Israel had a habit of bathing naked in public. However, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him), although he was from among them and grew up in the same environment, had been honored by Allah with prophethood. Because of his modesty and dignity, he never liked such behavior.
He always bathed in private or while wearing a cloth. When the people noticed that he never bathed naked, they falsely accused him, saying that he must have some defect in his body, and that is why he hides himself.
This accusation spread everywhere, and it caused great pain and distress to Prophet Musa (peace be upon him).
Then Allah decided to clear His noble Prophet from this false accusation in a remarkable way.
One day, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) went to a secluded place near a spring to bathe. He placed his clothes on a stone and began to bathe. When he finished and returned to take his clothes, he saw that the stone had taken them and was running away!
Seeing this, Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) ran after it, saying:
"Thawbi Hajar! Thawbi Hajar!"
(O stone! Give me back my clothes!)
The stone kept running until it reached the public areas of the town, and Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) continued chasing it.
In this way, all the people saw with their own eyes that there was no defect in his body. He was completely free from any flaw.
Then everyone said:
"By Allah! There is no defect in Musa."
After the truth became clear, the stone stopped. Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) took his clothes, got dressed, and thus Allah cleared him from the false accusation.
