Justice Banerjee risked his life to save a Hindu boy from being lynched.
They beat him to death. His skull was cracked. His body thrown aside like garbage.

India forgot him.
History erased him.
Because his sacrifice didn’t fit the narrative.

On Direct Action Day, 16 August 1946, when Calcutta turned into a slaughterhouse for Hindus, one man rose against the tide of terror — Gopal Patha, a butcher who became an unlikely saviour.

With no political power, no official backing, but courage in his heart, he organized a people’s army. He armed local youth with meat cleavers and swords — not to kill, but to protect the helpless when the state refused to.

While mobs hunted Hindus, Gopal Patha hunted the mobs.
