LG Manoj Sinha Rolls Out 1,500 Free Smart Homes for J&K’s Most Affected Families

Srinagar, 11 September:
A major relief initiative for Jammu & Kashmir was unveiled today as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the construction of 1,500 modern three-bedroom “Smart Homes” — absolutely free of cost — for families devastated by Operation Sindoor, recent floods and terror violence.

The landmark project, being implemented with HRDS India (High-range Rural Development Society), is designed to give not just shelter but dignity, stability and a fresh start to the worst-hit households across the Union Territory.

At a MoU-signing ceremony held at Raj Bhawan, HRDS India formally partnered with the Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir for rebuilding houses destroyed in calamities and conflict.

“Construction of houses is more than just putting up structures. It is about building dreams, a fresh start and a new chapter in the lives of affected families,” the Lieutenant Governor said, calling the move a reflection of his vision to safeguard the future of victims of natural disasters and unprovoked shelling.

Key Features of the Initiative
• 1,500 Free 3-Bedroom Smart Homes with modern features for comfort and safety.
• 15-Year Life Insurance Cover for all family members.
• Monthly Health Check-Ups at each beneficiary home.
• Free Internet Access (in collaboration with BSNL) to support education, communication and digital inclusion.
• Awareness & Outreach: Trained HRDS volunteers to visit each household monthly, sharing information on new government schemes and conducting free sessions on health, education, hygiene and preventive care.
• Repainting Every Five Years at no cost to the beneficiaries.

Present at the MoU signing were Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari (Principal Secretary to LG), Ramesh Kumar (Divisional Commissioner Jammu), Anshul Garg (Divisional Commissioner Kashmir), and senior leadership from HRDS India including Founder-Secretary Aji Krishnan, Administrator Saritha P Menon, Director (Corporate Sponsorship) Swaraj Kumar G. and Chairman (Global Initiatives) Sanjeev Bhatnagar.

This initiative is expected to become one of the largest free-housing projects ever taken up for victims of terror and disasters in Jammu & Kashmir offering not just roofs but a renewed sense of hope.

DC Reasi Reviews Relief and Restoration Works; Directs Expeditious Disposal of Pending Cases

2.05 crore disbursed, 315 relief cases addressed: DC Reasi

Reasi, September 11: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ms. Nidhi Malik (IAS), today chaired a review meeting to assess the status of relief distribution, restoration of road connectivity, and disposal of pending cases across the district. All subdivision and sectoral officers also participated through video conferencing.

Reviewing the relief measures reported from subdivisions including Katra, Mahore, and Dharmari, the DC directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to ensure that no genuine beneficiary is left out and that damage assessments are completed in a time-bound manner.

While reviewing the Mahore subdivision, DC Malik emphasized the need to expedite pending cases in Dewal, Sabraj, Neoch, and Dubry, where poor road connectivity has slowed the process. It was noted that most cases in Jamslan have already been settled. She further instructed that pending relief cases in Shikari and Sasote—affecting nearly 50 households—must also be processed without delay.

The meeting 315 have already been assessed and an amount of Rs 2.05 crores has been disbursed to beneficiaries.

The DC also reviewed the restoration of electricity and water supply. She noted that power supply has been restored in almost the entire district, including severely affected areas like Chassana and Gulabgarh. Reviewing water supply restoration, she directed the XENs to ensure full restoration where partial work remains pending.

On the status of road restoration, the DC observed that while machinery and manpower have been mobilized, frequent landslides and muck deposition continue to pose challenges. She directed the XEN PWD to fast-track the work. ACD Reasi informed that 142 roads have been reported damaged, many of which are being considered for repair under the MGNREGA scheme. The DC instructed all BDOs to furnish detailed reports of damaged roads proposed for inclusion under the scheme.
DC Malik also directed officers to expedite all pending relief and agricultural land-related cases and ensure their timely submission before the District Relief Committee, Reasi.
The meeting was attended by ADDC Sukhdev Singh Samyal, ADC Rakesh Kumar, CPO Narinder Kumar, SDMs (virtually), ACR, ACD Reasi, XENs of all departments, and other concerned officers.
