LG Manoj Sinha Orders Reopening of Tourist Spots in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 26, : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday announced the reopening of several tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, which had been temporarily closed as a precautionary measure in recent weeks. The decision, he said, was taken following a detailed security review during the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) meeting held earlier in the day at Raj Bhavan.

“After a thorough security review and discussion in today’s UHQ meeting, I have ordered reopening of more tourist spots in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, which were temporarily closed as precautionary measures,” the Lieutenant Governor said in a statement.

According to the announcement, seven tourist destinations in Kashmir Division, including Aru Valley, Rafting Point Yanner, Akkad Park, Padshahi Park, and Kaman Post, will be reopened. Similarly, five sites in Jammu Division, Dagan Top in Ramban, Dhaggar in Kathua, and Shiv Cave in Salal, Reasi will also resume access to visitors.

The Lieutenant Governor said the sites will officially reopen from Monday, September 29. He added that the decision reflects the administration’s confidence in the prevailing security situation and its commitment to boosting tourism activity across the Union Territory.

Tourism stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that reopening of these spots ahead of the autumn season will provide a fillip to the local economy and restore confidence among visitors. Security officials, meanwhile, said necessary arrangements will be in place to ensure the safety of tourists.

Kulgam Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Huge Quantity of Contraband Seized

Kulgam | September 26, 2025

In its continued crackdown on the drug menace, Kulgam Police achieved another major success by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a huge quantity of contraband substance from his possession. The operation forms part of the sustained efforts of District Police Kulgam to eradicate the scourge of drugs, which poses a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of the community, particularly the younger generation.

During a naka checking established at New Bypass Furrah Crossing, a police party led by IC Police Post Mirbazar intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Swift Dzire) bearing registration number JK03D-9184. On thorough search of the vehicle, 55.5 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in four bags was recovered.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Doonipora Bijbehara, Sangam Anantnag, was arrested on the spot. The vehicle used for the transportation of the contraband was also seized.

Following the recovery, a case vide FIR No. 191/2025 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Qazigund. Investigation has been taken up to trace the source of the contraband, identify its intended destination, and expose the wider nexus of drug traffickers involved in the illegal trade.

District Police Kulgam has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drugs and assured that stringent action will continue against all individuals or groups involved in drug trafficking and related activities. Citizens are once again urged to remain vigilant, extend cooperation, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police for timely action.

Speaking on the development, SSP Kulgam Shri Sahil Sarangal-IPS said:
“The fight against drugs is not just a law-enforcement challenge but also a social responsibility. District Police Kulgam is fully committed to uprooting this menace from society and protecting our youth from the dangers of addiction. We seek active cooperation from the public in this mission so that together, we can build a safe, healthy, and drug-free community.”
