Mangala (Sanskrit: मङ्गल, IAST: Maṅgala) is the name for Mars, the red planet, in Hindu texts. Also known as Lohit (meaning: red), he is the god of anger, celibate and sometimes linked to god Kartikeya (Skanda).
Mangala is the root of the word 'Mangalavara' or Tuesday in the Hindu calendar.

The word Mangala is ancient, first appearing in the Rigveda (2nd millennium BCE), and mentioned by grammarian Patanjali (~2nd century BCE), but not as an astrological term, rather to mean "auspicious-successful" (siddha) structure in literary arts. Panini too mentions it in verse I.3.1 in a similar context. In the Vedic texts, states Christopher Minkowski, there is no mention of auspicious rituals, or auspicious start or timing of a ritual, rather the "mangala" as auspicious practices likely emerged in the Indian traditions during the medieval era, thereafter found in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The ritualistic Mimamsa school of Hinduism did not include any mangala (auspicious) verses, related to plane "Mangala" in any of its text throughout the 1st millennium.

The Markendeya Puran has "मङ्गल्कवचम् स्तोत्र " referring to planet "Mangal".

Best days to initiate this mantra is on Punarvasu Nakshatra day or Chitra paksha Navami thithi days. One can chant or recite this mantra for 9, 11, 108 or 1008 times. One can use Rosary beads made out of basil or Tulsi jaap mala.

SOHAM : VERY POWERFUL MEDITATION FOR IMPROVING SPIRITUAL STRENGTH | Kundalini Awakening Meditation

The Soham mantra, which resonates “I am he/that”, indicates an association with that divine intelligence, the oneness of all. The intelligence that is the guiding force for the universe, the one that is the most powerful and ancient is the universal force and I Am That, Sohum.
Sohum comprises of two words of sanskrit language, Sah + Aham = Soham.

Sah is 'HE' in Sanskrit and Aham means 'I'. 'I am He' is soham. But who is he? Who is that? He is the brahman – the universal soul according to vedas. He is the paramatma, ishwar, Shiva, Vishnu for idol worshipers, higher cosmic intelligence for scientists, guru for disciples, jesus for christians, buddha for buddhists. He has many names in different cults and traditions.

It is the mantra to remind and experience that we all are connected and run by the same intelligence. In fact we ourselves are "that intelligence". The mantra of expansion is Soham.

PRACTISE : SOHAM MEDITATION / SOHUM CHANTING
Sit in comfortable pose with spine upright. Best to be in padmasana (lotus pose).
Match the mantra with breathing. Align the inhalation with ‘So’ and exhalation with ‘Ham’. Once you do this you will get to know automatically that mantra goes with the breathing naturally.

One can chant the mantra vocally though or can do it silently with breathing as 'ajapa japa'. Ajapa japa is the chanting inside the mind where words are not spoken. Even the tongue is stationary. But there is no rule, it's all up to the practitioner.

Meditation on soham or chanting soham mantra is the connection to the source. Seeing the each being as I, is crossing the boundaries of 'vyashti' (individuality) and going to 'samashti' (all collective) is soham. It is the journey from jeeva (individual self) to paramatman (universal self). Raising consciousness from individual to the supreme higher consciousness is what soham is.
