What is sold as a plant root called Hatha Jodi is actually a lizard's organ, cut off and dried.

The Bengal Monitor Lizard is killed for it -most of the time while still alive. This species is protected by the same law that protects tigers.

That hasn't stopped the trade. Hundreds of hatha jodi have been seized in raids across Odisha, Nashik, and Jharkhand, and it's still sold openly online.

People buy it believing it brings wealth, luck, even court case wins. None of that is true. What is true: an animal is being wiped out for a superstition with zero basis in fact.

This is wildlife crime, not tradition. Know someone who owns one, sells one, or believes in one - send them this.

An interesting observation from this evening .
I noticed a dwarf honey bee completely still on a Moringa flower, with a few tiny flies hovering around it. I slowly moved closer, expecting the bee to fly away. But it didn’t move. Within a few seconds there was some movement ..It was a crab spider slowly walking out of the flower,holding the bee in its grasp, while
the tiny flies continued hovering around them.

The flies you see here are freeloader flies (Milichiidae) a fascinating group known for their kleptoparasitic behaviour. They are often seen around freshly killed honey bees being consumed by spiders or robber flies, stealing their meal by feeding on the fluids and juices of the captured prey.
