Reposted from The Golden Lady of the Forest -

This is the female Hoolock Gibbon, India’s only ape species. Unlike the males, who are black, females wear a golden-brown coat with a dark face framed by pale fur. Agile and arboreal, they spend their lives swinging through the canopy, rarely touching the ground.

Hoolock gibbons live in close-knit family groups, where pairs sing melodious duets to defend their territory and strengthen their lifelong bonds. Sadly, their forest homes are shrinking, making them one of the most threatened primates of Northeast India.

✨The Tale of Two Tigers✨

Last season at Kanha, it was a highlight and a bittersweet series of moments, watching this young female whom we’ve seen since her cub days, begin to challenge her mother. For nearly 13 years, the mother had reigned over this territory, her authority still shining strong.

We saw them walk side by side in perfect unison, lifting their legs together, yet their paths were splitting. The mother walked in the glow of bright sunlight, her legacy illuminated, while the daughter lingered in the shadows but pressing forward, ready to claim her share of the light. Almost as if nature itself was painting a story: the queen in full radiance, the challenger breaking through the shade.

A fleeting moment, but one that felt like a timeless tale of power, legacy, and love in the wild.
