Key UPI Rule Changes Effective 1 August 2025
1. Balance‑Check Limit: 50 per App per Day
You can check your account balance through each UPI app (e.g., Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm) up to 50 times a day.
2. Linked Account Views: 25 per Day
Viewing your list of linked bank accounts within an app is now capped at 25 times daily.
3. Transaction Status Retries: Up to 3 Attempts
If a payment fails or is pending, you get a maximum of 3 status checks per transaction, with a mandatory gap (e.g. 90 seconds) between retries.
4. AutoPay Only During Non‑Peak Hours
Scheduled auto-debits (like EMIs, subscriptions) will run only in non‑peak slots — before 10 AM, between 1–5 PM, and after 9:30 PM. Peak hours (10–1 and 5–9:30 PM) no longer allow autopay processing.
5. Recipient Name Display Mandated
Anytime you initiate a UPI transaction, the beneficiary’s registered name will be shown before confirmation, to help avoid accidental or fraudulent payments.
6. No GST on UPI Transactions
UPI payments remain free from GST, regardless of the transaction amount—no change in merchant or user-side charges.
7. Mandatory Balance Notifications
Banks must automatically send balance notifications after every successful transaction, reducing the need for manual balance checks.

✅ What Stays Unchanged
The existing per-transaction limits (up to ₹1 lakh normally, and ₹5 lakh for healthcare/education) remain untouched. These rules don't affect payment caps.
