"WEDNESDAY" is an American supernatural horror-comedy TV series inspired by the iconic Addams Family character, Wednesday Addams. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the show features Jenna Ortega in the lead role, with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Fred Armisen, and Christina Ricci in supporting roles. Four episodes of the eight-episode series were directed by Tim Burton, who also serves as an executive producer. The series follows Wednesday as she unravels the mystery of a monster haunting her school.
Tim Burton was previously involved with two Addams Family projects: he declined to direct the 1991 film and also worked on a canceled stop-motion animated film. In October 2020, it was revealed that Burton was working on a television series, which Netflix later greenlit. Filming took place in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. "Wednesday" premiered on November 16, 2022, and launched on Netflix on November 23, receiving generally positive reviews. Critics particularly praised Ortega's performance, though they noted some similarities to CW dramas. Within two weeks of its debut, it became the third most-watched English-language series on Netflix.
