Jai Bhim, Jai Phule, and Jai Birsa!!!
We are pleased to inform you that the Academic Workshop on “Emancipatory Intellectual Movement of Phule, Bhim Bhoi, Ambedkar and Others” is a huge success. Professor G Aloysius' presence and his talk provided us with a perspective to deconstruct Brahminical Odia, History, Culture, and Nation. The other speakers further critique the Brahminical dominance in the state. The views of participants were equally important; everyone felt that there is an urgency of the Ambedkarite Intellectual Movement in the State. There is a need to rearticulate and assert Bhim Bhoi, Birsa Munda and others. The experiences of marginalised communities are equally important to deconstruct the Brahminical history and polity of Odisha.
There were around 100 participants in the Workshop, and we took the views of each participant. The story of the Adivasi and Dalits needs must be converted to knowledge/epistemology. One must introspect the syllabus, curriculum and teaching methods of universities and colleges in the state. The atrocities against marginalised communities must be addressed, and intellectuals must write on social injustice. There is a need for different forms of intellectual activities in the states. Ambedkarite intellectual movement can be articulated by academics, researchers, students, journalists, artists, political leaders and so on. Because Odisha lacks such assertion and articulation in the state.
