Meaning: One who seeks refuge in Mahakal-Ganeshwar is undoubtedly liberated from the cycle of birth and death.
Kashi is not merely a city; it is the physical manifestation of Lord Shiva's Anandvan (Forest of Bliss). According to the Skanda Purana, the water of Gyanvapi is the divine nectar; partaking in it awakens the light of three divine Lingas within the heart. The protection of this sacred water is entrusted to MahadevтАЩs Ganas across the four directions:
West: Shri Dandapani ЁЯЫбя╕П
East: Tarak Dev тЬи
North: Nandishwar ЁЯРВ
South: Mahakal Himself ЁЯФе
тЬи The Legend: When Mahadev Felt the Longing for Kashi тЬи
While residing on Mount Mandarachal with Mata Parvati, Lord Shiva felt a deep longing for his beloved Kashi. In that state of separation, the Lord assumed the form of 'Mahakal.' His countless Ganas also manifested in the same form. Following His command, these Ganas arrived in King DivodasтАЩ Kashi and, mesmerized by its divinity, chose to stay. They performed the rigorous 'Pashupat Vrat' and established a Shivalinga.
Pleased by their devotion, Lord Avimukteshwar granted a boon that this Linga would be renowned as "Mahakal-Ganeshwar."
ЁЯТО Significance of Worship (A Rarity in Kaliyuga) ЁЯТО
According to the scriptures, devotees who worship here following the prescribed rituals receive extraordinary blessings:
Freedom from Fear of Death: Those who perform a three-day festival and Abhishekam here on the Chaturthi Tithi, alongside Vinayaka Puja, are liberated from the fear of 'Kaal' (Time/Death). ЁЯЪй
Bhasma Lepan & Kanya Pujan: Offering Bhasma (sacred ash) to Mahadev and performing Kanya Pujan (worshipping young girls) invokes the infinite grace of the Lord.
Attainment of Moksha: On the day of Amavasya, anyone who has darshan or even remembers this shrine with devotion becomes 'Jivanmukta' (liberated while alive) and eventually finds a place as a Shivgana.
Non-Dual Devotion: This shrine gives the message that the Devotee, the Lord, the Guru, and Devotion are ultimately one.
