Interaction-cum-FGD on Polygamy and Women’s Mental Health Held at Yingkiong

Yingkiong, 28 May 2026: An Interaction-cum-Focused Group Discussion (FGD) on polygamy and its impact on women’s mental health was held at the APWWS Upper Siang District Unit office, Yingkiong.

Facilitator Moti Pangkam highlighted the mental health issues faced by women due to polygamy and stressed the role of media in raising awareness. APWWS President Smti. Kasimang Jopir Pazing said the society is actively working on women’s rights, legal literacy, and anti-drug awareness, adding that special awareness programmes on polygamy will be organised soon.

Smti. Yalik Jerang emphasised girl child education, financial independence, and awareness on the consequences of polygamy for meaningful social change. The programme saw active participation and discussions on women’s welfare and social issues.

USCF Appeals Safe Release of Anti-Drugs Activist Gumin Mize During Yingkiong Press Briefing.

YINGKIONG, May 26: The Upper Siang Christian Forum (USCF) along with the chairman of Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society today held a press briefing at Yingkiong regarding the recent arrest of All Arunachal Pradesh Anti Drugs Warrior president Shri Gumin Mize by Assam Police.

Addressing the media, the members of USCF expressed deep concern over the arrest and the reported allegations of custodial torture against the anti-drug activist. The forum appealed to the concerned authorities and Assam Police to ensure the safety and well-being of Gumin Mize while under police custody and demanded that no physical harm be inflicted upon him.

The speakers stated that Gumin Mize has been actively involved in anti-drug awareness campaigns and rehabilitation initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh and has earned recognition among various social organisations for his efforts against drug abuse. They further appealed for his immediate and fair release through due legal process.

The chairman of Sikiing Kojee Charitable Society also extended solidarity with the family members and supporters of Gumin Mize, stating that any investigation should be conducted transparently and within the framework of law and human rights.

ASAD Holds Press Conference on Siang Development & SUMP

The Association for Siang Area Development (ASAD) today held a press conference at Jengging, Upper Siang District, where members highlighted the aims and objectives of the organization.

During the press briefing, ASAD emphasized its commitment towards sustainable development, protection of natural resources, preservation of indigenous identity, and welfare of the people of the Siang region.

The association also spoke on the proposed SUMP (Siang Upper Multipurpose Project), sharing their views, concerns, and vision regarding the project and its possible impact on the environment, rivers, and local communities.

ASAD stated that the organization will continue to work for unity, awareness, and inclusive progress of the Siang area while ensuring that the voice of the people remains a priority.

JIDO BAANE KEBANG – FINAL DECLARATION

A decisive meeting of the Jido Baane Kebang (Jido Traditional Village Council) was held at the Jido Community Hall on 7 May 2026, where elders, youth, and villagers unanimously rejected the proposed Siang Dam.

Invoking BEFR 1873, Article 371(H), Forest Rights Act 2006, and indigenous customary laws, the Kebang declared that the rivers, mountains, forests, and ancestral lands of the Abor people are sacred and non-negotiable.

The council issued its final message:

NO SIANG DAM
NO NEGOTIATION
NO CONSENT

The Jido people warned that no dam representatives, survey teams, or officials should enter the village regarding the project.

Tuting, May 07, 2026:

Residents of Ningging, Singging, Angging and Rising villages today signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in support of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) during a programme held at Tuting Community Hall.

A total of 127 families from the four villages extended their consent for the PFR survey in the presence of over 300 people. The MoU was signed between Deputy Commissioner Upper Siang Shri Talo Jerang and village representatives.

Addressing the gathering, Hon’ble MLA Shri Alo Libang and Deputy Commissioner Shri Talo Jerang appreciated the public support and highlighted the importance of development, transparency and cooperation during the PFR activities.

Migging, May 06, 2026

Residents of Migging, Panggo, and Moshing villages today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in support of the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) at the Circle Officer Headquarters, Migging.

A total of 134 families from the three villages extended their support, taking the overall support for PFR activities in the area to around 80 percent.

The MoU was signed between Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang, Shri Talo Jerang, on behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and representatives of the Pro-PFR families in the presence of Hon’ble MLA Shri Alo Libang, Chief Engineer Er. K. Perme, State Nodal Officer Er. Atek Miyu, Heads of Departments, Project Affected Families, and members of the public.

During the programme, the Deputy Commissioner and Hon’ble MLA clarified various aspects related to the PFR activities and assured the villagers of transparency and continued public participation throughout the process.

More than 200 villagers attended the programme.

Drone Demonstration Inspires Students at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tuting

Tuting, May 4, 2026: Marking the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the Spearhead Gunners conducted an engaging drone demonstration event at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tuting, on Monday.

The initiative was aimed at raising awareness among school students about the increasing role of modern technology in military operations. During the event, various types of drones were displayed, followed by live demonstrations showcasing their advanced capabilities.

Officials highlighted the critical role played by drones during Operation Sindoor, explaining their use in surveillance, reconnaissance, and tactical missions. The session provided students with valuable insights into how cutting-edge technology is shaping modern warfare.

NINGGING BAANE KEBANG ISSUES RESOLUTION ON PROPOSED SIANG DAM

Upper Siang: The Ningging Traditional Village Council (Baane Kebang) has announced a resolution concerning the proposed Siang Dam project.

According to the statement issued by the council, the resolution reflects the collective views expressed by members of the Ningging community. The council cited provisions including the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) 1873, Article 371(H) of the Constitution of India, the Forest Rights Act 2006, relevant environmental regulations, and customary laws.

In its declaration, the council expressed opposition to the proposed Siang Dam and stated that it does not intend to participate in discussions, consultations, or related processes concerning the project.

The statement further mentioned that the council does not support the conduct of meetings, surveys, or other project-related activities within the village, and indicated that no individual has been authorized by the council to represent Ningging in matters related to the proposed dam.

Officials or other stakeholders have not yet publicly responded to the resolution at the time of reporting. Further developments are awaited.
