SSP DISTRICT ZANSKAR ANNOUNCES 10-DAY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR LADAKH POLICE CONSTABLE ASPIRANTS

Zanskar, September 2, 2026: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), District Zanskar, Shri Rigzin Sandup, has announced a 10-day orientation programme for aspiring candidates preparing for the upcoming Ladakh Police Constable recruitment process.

The programme will commence on September 7, 2026, at the Sports Stadium Ground near TRC, Padum, Zanskar. It aims to provide proper guidance, physical training and orientation to local youth aspiring to join the UT Ladakh Police.

SSP Zanskar Shri Rigzin Sandup has requested all eligible Constable aspirants from District Zanskar to actively participate in the programme and make the best use of this valuable opportunity. He encouraged aspirants to attend the sessions regularly, maintain discipline and prepare themselves with dedication and determination for the recruitment process.

All aspiring candidates from Zanskar are hereby informed to register themselves at Police Station Zanskar, Padum, from tomorrow onwards in order to participate in the orientation programme.

The initiative is expected to provide an important platform for the youth of Zanskar to receive guidance and physical preparation ahead of the Ladakh Police Constable recruitment process.

The Ladakh Police Department has appealed to all aspiring candidates to take full advantage of the orientation programme, work hard and remain focused on their goal of serving the people by joining the UT Ladakh Police.

All eligible aspirants are encouraged to register and participate actively in the 10-day orientation programme beginning September 7, 2026.

Akashvani Radio Kargil Holds Awareness Session on GEMS OF INDIA Challenges at GDC Zanskar

Zanskar, August 28, 2026: Akashvani Radio Kargil organised an awareness session on the GEMS OF INDIA Challenges for the students of Government Model Degree College (GDC) Zanskar, encouraging young students to actively participate in the national initiative and showcase their creativity and talent.

During the session, Stanzin Angchuk, PTC Akashvani Zanskar, briefed the students about the GEMS OF INDIA Challenges and explained the process of registering through the WAVES app and enrolling for various challenges. He encouraged the students to make the most of the opportunity and urged them to participate in large numbers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nisar from Radio Padum also encouraged the students to take an active part in the GEMS OF INDIA Challenges and highlighted the importance of youth participation in such platforms.

The students of Government Model Degree College Zanskar showed keen interest during the awareness session. Several students came forward and enrolled themselves for the GEMS OF INDIA Challenges, marking enthusiastic participation from the Zanskar region.

The initiative aims to provide young people with a platform to demonstrate their skills, creativity and ideas while connecting them with a wider national audience. The enthusiastic response from the students reflected the growing interest among Zanskar’s youth in participating in national-level creative and talent-based initiatives.

Awareness Workshop on Gems of India Challenge Held in Zanskar

Zanskar, August 27, 2026: An awareness workshop on the Gems of India Challenge was held today at the Dak Bungalow, Padum, Zanskar, with the objective of creating awareness and encouraging participation from the people of Zanskar.

The workshop was led by Shri Rajeev Kumar Dubey & Aditya Kumar Singh, Programme Officers, Waves OTT and Nodal Officer of Ladakh UT for the Gems of India Challenge.

The speakers interacted with participants and provided detailed information about the challenge, its objectives, participation process and the opportunities it offers to emerging content creators. During the interactive session, the participants were encouraged to share information about the challenge with their friends, families and wider community so that more talented individuals from Zanskar can take part and showcase the unique stories, culture, heritage and potential of the region.

The resource persons also addressed the queries and doubts raised by the participants, helping them better understand the challenge and the process of participation. The workshop also highlighted the opportunity for aspiring and emerging content creators to use the Gems of India Challenge as a platform to showcase their creativity and tell stories that represent the rich identity and diversity of India.

The workshop concluded with an appeal to the people of Zanskar, particularly young and emerging content creators, to make the most of this opportunity and participate actively in the Gems of India Challenge.

Deputy Commissioner Zanskar Chairs 3rd District NCORD Committee Meeting to Combat Drug Abuse and Trafficking

Zanskar, August 25, 2026: A comprehensive meeting of the 3rd District NCORD Committee meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the Sh. Omkar Rajendra Gundage, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, to review and strengthen the strategy against drug trafficking and substance abuse etc across the district.

The meeting was attended by key administrative and departmental heads, including the Superintendent of Police Zanskar (Member Secretary), Chief Medical Officer Zanskar, Zone Education Officer (ZEO), Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), and Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Representative of Forest, Army etc.

Superintendent of Police Zanskar (member secretary), Sh. Rigzin Sangdup (JKPS), briefed the chair regarding the ongoing effort made by the District Police Zanskar to curb the menace of drug which is becoming an alarming situation in Ladakh.

Growing concern over drug abuse among youth in Ladakh, the member secretary has intimated the chair that the police station Zanskar has registered so far 03 cases under NDPS act in which four persons have been arrested, two cases have been registered under excise act in Zanskar in which 02 persons were arrested. SP Zanskar further intimated the chair that the awareness campaign are being caaried under NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyaan by different department of the District Zanskar.

Key Agenda Points & Action Taken:
• Intelligence & Surveillance: All concerned departments were directed to work in close coordination with the Police department to share intelligence, track trends in drug trafficking if any, and asked for forward and backward linkage to reach the main culprits.
• Control of Illicit Cultivation: Concerned departments were instructed to keep strict vigil against any illicit cultivation of poppy or cannabis crops if any in Zanskar.
• Investigation of NDPS Cases: Police were directed to intensify surveillance and enforcement, conduct regular field verification in vulnerable areas and identify users and peddlers for action under the NDPS Act.
• Awareness & Community Engagement: Police departments, Medical department, Social Welfare and Education department were asked to conduct awareness programs under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign in schools and colleges by actively involving students and teachers. Awareness efforts will also include religious leader, social organisation and village Nambardars.
• Health & Medical Camps: The Chief Medical Officer, Zanskar has been advised to schedule medical health camps across all schools and colleges in the District for identification and prevention of such users if any.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from the Chair, emphasizing holistic efforts by all stakeholders to make the region drug-free.

DGBR Reviews Strategic Infrastructure Development Under Project Yojak

Leh, August 25: Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, AVSM, VSM, Director General Border Roads (DGBR), undertook a three-day visit to Project Yojak from August 18 to 20, 2026, to review the progress of major strategic infrastructure projects being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the challenging high-altitude terrain of Ladakh.

During the visit, the DGBR conducted a comprehensive review of the progress of the Nimmu-Padam-Darcha (NPD) Road and the ongoing construction of the Shinkun La Tunnel, both of which are considered significant components of Ladakh's strategic and all-weather connectivity network.

The Nimmu-Padam-Darcha Road is emerging as an important alternative connectivity corridor between Ladakh and the rest of the country. The road passes through some of the most difficult mountainous terrain and involves construction and improvement works at high altitudes. Its completion is expected to provide a strategically important route while also improving connectivity for the people of the remote Zanskar region.

The Shinkun La Tunnel is another major infrastructure project being undertaken in the region. The tunnel is aimed at providing more reliable and all-weather connectivity across the high-altitude Shinkun La sector, where harsh winters and heavy snowfall can severely affect surface connectivity. Once operational, the tunnel is expected to reduce the difficulties associated with seasonal road closures and contribute significantly to the movement of people, essential supplies and strategic resources.

During his visit, Lieutenant General Harpal Singh reviewed the progress of ongoing works and interacted with personnel deployed at various locations under Project Yojak. He took stock of the challenges faced by BRO teams while executing major engineering works in difficult terrain, extreme weather conditions and at high elevations.

The DGBR also interacted with BRO Karmayogis, recognising their dedication and perseverance in executing critical infrastructure projects under demanding conditions. He appreciated their commitment, professional approach and sustained efforts towards strengthening strategic connectivity in the region.

The BRO personnel working on these projects face numerous challenges, including extreme cold, high altitude, difficult geological conditions, limited working seasons and logistical constraints. Despite these challenges, BRO Karmayogis continue to work in remote and inhospitable areas to ensure that vital infrastructure projects progress according to schedule.

The visit also highlighted the broader significance of infrastructure development in Ladakh. Improved road and tunnel connectivity is important not only from the perspective of national security and strategic mobility but also for the socio-economic development of remote communities. Better connectivity can facilitate access to healthcare, education, markets, tourism and essential services while improving the movement of goods and people.

The Nimmu-Padam-Darcha corridor, in particular, is expected to provide a major connectivity boost to Zanskar and adjoining areas, opening new opportunities for tourism, trade and economic development. The Shinkun La Tunnel is expected to further strengthen the reliability of this corridor by reducing dependence on high-altitude surface crossings.

The DGBR's visit reflects the continued emphasis of the Border Roads Organisation on accelerating strategically important infrastructure projects in the region. The progress of the NPD Road and Shinkun La Tunnel will remain closely watched as Ladakh continues to expand its road network and strengthen all-weather connectivity.

The BRO's sustained efforts in some of the country's most challenging terrains continue to underline its important role in connecting remote border and high-altitude areas while contributing to the overall development and strategic preparedness of the region.

*AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON DRUG ABUSE AND CYBER SAFETY HELD AT HR. SEC. SCHOOL PHEY*

Phey, Zanskar | 24 August 2026

Police Station Zanskar conducted an awareness programme on Drug Abuse under the ongoing month-long Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and Cyber Safety at Government Higher Secondary School, Phey, with the participation of around 70 students, teachers and non teaching staff.

The students were sensitized about the harmful effects of drug abuse and substance addiction, encouraging them to make healthy choices, stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a drug-free society. The programme emphasized the importance of youth participation, prevention, early awareness and community support in making the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan a sustained movement against drug abuse.

They were also sensitized about online fraud, phishing, OTP/UPI scams, fake social-media profiles, identity theft and other cyber threats. They were advised to stay alert online and never share OTPs, passwords, PINs or banking details with unknown persons.

The interactive session provided students an opportunity to raise their queries and learn practical ways to stay safe in the digital world and protect themselves from substance abuse.

District Police Zanskar remains committed to empowering youth through awareness, prevention and community engagement and to furthering the objectives of the month-long Nasha Mukt Abhiyan towards a healthier, safer and drug-free Zanskar.

Muslim Youth Association Zanskar Holds Peaceful Election

Zanskar, August 23, 2026: The election of the Muslim Youth Association Zanskar was held today in a fair, transparent and peaceful manner under the supervision of its parent body, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar.

Two candidates, Ghulam Ahmad Khan and Imran Mustafa Dar, contested the election. A total of 122 votes were polled. Ghulam Ahmad Khan secured 74 votes, while Imran Mustafa Dar received 48 votes.

Ghulam Ahmad Khan was declared the winner with a margin of 26 votes.

The election process reflected the democratic spirit and active participation of the Muslim youth of Zanskar, with the proceedings conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner.

The President of Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Zanskar congratulated both candidates for participating in the election and appreciated the youth for maintaining a peaceful and democratic atmosphere throughout the process. He also congratulated Ghulam Ahmad Khan on his victory and wished him success in his new responsibility.

The Anjuman President expressed hope that the newly elected leadership of the Muslim Youth Association Zanskar will work dedicatedly for the welfare, unity and development of youth and the wider community.
