Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92, Nation Mourns an Icon

Mumbai, April 12 — India bid farewell to one of its most celebrated musical legends, Asha Bhosle, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 92. Her family confirmed the sad news, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Indian playback singing.

The veteran artist had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday following complications related to her heart and respiratory system. According to close sources, she had been facing health issues for some time and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where she was placed under intensive care. Her son, Anand, confirmed that she breathed her last on Sunday afternoon. Funeral rites are scheduled to take place on Monday.

A towering figure in Indian cinema, Bhosle carved a remarkable legacy that stretched across decades. Known for her unmatched versatility, she stood shoulder to shoulder with her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar, in shaping the golden era of Hindi film music.

Born in 1933 into the illustrious Mangeshkar family, Bhosle began her journey in music at a young age. She recorded her first song for films in the early 1940s and steadily rose to fame during the 1950s, eventually becoming one of the most in-demand voices in the industry.

Over the years, she broke barriers with her ability to adapt to diverse musical styles. While she initially gained recognition for lively and cabaret-style numbers, she later impressed audiences with her depth in classical compositions and ghazals. Her work in the film Umrao Jaan remains a benchmark of artistic excellence.

Throughout her illustrious career, Asha Bhosle received numerous accolades, including seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Playback Singer. She was also honored with two National Film Awards for her unforgettable renditions in “Dil Cheez Kya Hai” and “Mera Kuch Saamaan.”
Her passing leaves behind an irreplaceable void in the world of music. Tributes have begun pouring in from across the country, with artists, fans, and public figures remembering her as a timeless voice that defined generations.

Cash Shortage Hits Lower Subansiri, Public Urged to Use Digital Payments

Ziro, April 8, 2026: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri District, has issued a circular informing the general public about a cash shortage affecting the district. The shortage has arisen due to limited cash availability at the State Bank of India (SBI), Ziro Branch, which functions as the district’s currency chest and supplies cash to other banks.

According to the circular, the SBI Ziro branch is currently unable to remit adequate cash to banks across the district, leading to potential disruptions in routine banking services. As a result, several bank branches and offices in Lower Subansiri may face constraints in carrying out cash transactions.
Authorities have indicated that cash withdrawals and other cash-related services could be temporarily restricted until the situation stabilizes. While no specific timeline has been provided for normalization, officials are closely monitoring the situation.

In light of the ongoing shortage, the district administration has strongly advised residents to adopt digital payment methods such as UPI, net banking, and other online transaction platforms wherever possible.

The circular also acknowledged the inconvenience caused to the public and assured that necessary steps are being taken to restore normal cash flow at the earliest.

The notice, issued by Hage Tarung, SDO and in-charge Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri District, calls for public cooperation and awareness during this temporary phase.

Public Negligence Tarnishes Gyati Takka General Zonal Hospital, Ziro

Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh: The newly inaugurated Gyati Takka General Zonal Hospital in Ziro is already grappling with issues of public negligence and minor infrastructure defects, raising concerns about its upkeep and long-term sustainability.

Despite being a modern healthcare facility designed to serve the public efficiently, reports have surfaced of unhygienic practices within the hospital premises. Instances of pan masala spitting and littering have been observed, tarnishing the cleanliness of the environment.

Such behavior not only diminishes the dignity of the institution but also poses serious health risks to patients, visitors, and healthcare workers.

In addition to these concerns, early signs of infrastructure problems have also emerged. A portion of the hospital wall has reportedly developed cracks, while leakage from a flush pipe has been noted, indicating the need for immediate inspection and repair by the concerned authorities.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Koj Jarbo expressed concern over the situation and appealed to the public to act responsibly. He emphasized that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility and urged citizens to treat the hospital as a common space meant for everyone’s well-being.

Highlighting a positive aspect, Dr. Jarbo also informed that the AMRIT Pharmacy is operational within the hospital premises. The pharmacy provides medicines at subsidized rates, offering discounts ranging from 10% to 90%, thereby making essential healthcare more accessible and affordable for patients.

Authorities are expected to take prompt action to address the infrastructure issues. At the same time, continued public awareness and cooperation will be crucial in ensuring that the hospital remains a clean, safe, and efficient healthcare facility for all.

Ziro, March 16, 2026:
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri District, has issued a circular assuring residents that there is no shortage of LPG and POL (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants) in the district, despite the evolving international energy supply situation.

The circular, issued by Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme (APCS), clarified that the supply of LPG and POL items remains stable and is operating normally. Consumers have been urged not to panic or engage in unnecessary bulk booking of LPG cylinders, as such actions may disrupt equitable distribution.

As a precautionary step to ensure fair supply among all consumers, the administration has introduced a minimum waiting period between LPG bookings:
25 days for consumers under urban area distributors
45 days for consumers under rural/Gramin Vitrak distributors
Authorities also informed that LPG bookings are being conducted through digital platforms, while deliveries are monitored using the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system to ensure transparency and accountability.

Priority in LPG distribution is being given to domestic households, healthcare institutions, educational institutions, Anganwadi centres, and welfare kitchens.

For non-domestic consumers outside the education and healthcare sectors, the circular stated that a three-member committee constituted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Renewable Energy will review supply-related representations.

The district administration has appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate, emphasizing that there is no cause for concern regarding LPG availability in Lower Subansiri.
