A MURDER MOST FOUL: THE LIFE OF A HITMAN
“That was quite a murder.” The man behind the counter said, throwing me into a panic.
“What, how do you know that?” I blurted out, preparing to run.
“That’s what it’s called, a murder of crows, like a pride of lions or a pod of whales.”

"I stared at the tan satchel that the beast had placed on the table (Buffalo Jackson leather duffle, nice) when she said, “This bag contains two million dollars.”
I unzipped the bag by a couple of inches, yup, a s**tload of banded 100-dollar bills."

A MURDER MOST FOUL: THE LIFE OF A HITMAN
I would sneak a look at it hanging between Gabi’s breasts. For that alone, it was holy to me, but now that she had given it to me, it was beyond divine.

A MURDER MOST FOUL: THE LIFE OF A HITMAN
He let out a laugh that even now I have a hard time putting into words. It was a laugh that betrayed a joy at having lived through the things he had seen and the things he had probably done. It was a laugh that said ’f--k you world, I’m still here."

Chapter 17. THEN: CAPTAIN JAMES T. (OR ‘R’) KIRK
Notch reflects on his feelings of loneliness and isolation after returning from Tan Son Nhut Airbase. He contemplates his life as a professional killer and decides to visit Sarge upon his return to the United States. After getting his bandages removed, he visits the Ba Thien Hau temple for contemplation and then goes to the Dhiem Ai Bakery to inform Xuan about Allan's death. Despite initial resistance from Xuan's uncle, he manages to speak with Xuan and tells her about Allan's love for her and his desire to marry her. Xuan reveals that she is learning English and wants to name their child after Allan. He struggles with thoughts of Allan, Xuan, and Gabriella, and the melancholy of his situation. The chapter ends with the Notch preparing to leave Vietnam and return to civilian life, feeling a sense of duty and the weight of his experiences.
