The blue macaws that inspired the animated film Rio have achieved an extraordinary comeback after being considered extinct in the wild for nearly two decades.

Once seen only in movies and conservation centers, these rare birds are now soaring once again in their native habitat. Their return represents a significant triumph for wildlife conservation, the result of years of careful breeding, protection, and reintroduction efforts.

This real-world revival demonstrates that with sustained commitment, scientific expertise, and international support, extinction is not always final. In rare and hopeful cases, it can mark the start of a new chapter.

In Zaragoza, Spain, a powerful public sculpture titled La Mujer Que Nunca Hizo Nada, The Woman Who Never Did Anything, quietly challenges how society values labor. Created by artist José Luis Fernández, the piece shows a woman bent forward under the crushing weight of domestic work: washing machines, buckets, brooms, and household tools stacked on her back, while she still reaches down to hold her children’s hands.

The sculpture is a stark tribute to the invisible, unpaid labor that keeps homes and communities running. Tasks often brushed off as “nothing” are shown here as physically and emotionally exhausting, carried day after day without recognition or rest.

By giving this burden a permanent, visible form, the artwork asks a piercing question of anyone who passes it: if this is “doing nothing,” then who has really been holding everything together all along?

I recently rewatched this interview after seeing a reel claiming, “you got what you deserved.” It was heartbreaking to see Riley in tears, and I can’t understand how anyone could watch that and lack empathy. People who recognize her likely know her work—and yet some act as if they’re somehow above her.

I understand concerns about the large number of creators and broader societal discussions, but an individual should always have the freedom to make their own choices. Riley made history, created meaningful art, and kept countless people company. If she were my daughter, I’d be incredibly proud of her.

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of California examined the effects of fasting on the immune system, revealing potential mechanisms by which the body may regenerate blood and immune cells under controlled fasting conditions.

The study found that periods of fasting led to a temporary reduction in certain white blood cells, which in turn appeared to trigger the body’s hematopoietic system—the system responsible for generating new blood and immune cells—to become more active.

Researchers describe this as a stem-cell–driven regeneration process, suggesting that the body may respond to metabolic stress by producing fresh immune system cells.

During fasting, the body shifts from using readily available glucose to alternative energy sources such as fat and ketone bodies, creating a metabolic state that can signal cellular renewal processes.

The study emphasizes that this response is part of the body’s adaptive mechanisms to metabolic stress rather than a replacement for medical treatment or interventions.

Experts note that while these findings provide insights into the biology of fasting and immune function, fasting protocols should be approached cautiously.

Individual health conditions, nutritional needs, and medical history can all affect how the body responds. Controlled clinical supervision is recommended before attempting extended or repeated fasts.

These results contribute to a growing understanding of how dietary patterns and metabolic states can influence immune health, highlighting potential avenues for future research in regenerative medicine and metabolic therapy.

This summary is for educational purposes and is not medical advice. Individuals should consult a qualified health professional before beginning any fasting regimen.

A child’s meltdown is often their nervous system shouting, “This is too much for me.” In developing brains, the fight, flight, or freeze response activates quickly because coping and regulation skills are still under construction.

When we punish the reaction without teaching regulation, it’s like yelling at a fire alarm instead of putting out the fire. What truly helps is co-regulation: an adult staying calm, breathing slowly, and offering steady presence and comfort.

Through repeated experiences of being soothed, a child’s body learns what safety feels like. Over time, these moments don’t just calm the meltdown, they actually shape the child’s stress system, building the foundation for self-regulation and emotional resilience.

"A U.S. inmate named Jonathan Watson, who is already serving a life sentence for murder, later explained in a detailed letter why he killed two fellow prisoners.

According to Watson, a man convicted of child abuse had been transferred to his housing unit and openly watched children’s TV shows there. Watson said this behavior deeply angered him and that he warned prison guards several times that he was close to losing control — but claims he was ignored.

Watson then beat the inmate to death using another prisoner’s cane. Afterward, while trying to turn himself in, he encountered another convicted child molester and killed him as well.

In his letter, quoted by The Mercury News, Watson wrote: “I thought I was doing the world a favor.”

Following the incident, Watson was transferred to a different prison. Authorities made clear that his actions remain serious crimes, regardless of the victims’ past convictions. "
