Celebriamo Artemisia Gentileschi (Roma, 8 luglio 1593 – Napoli, 1654 circa), la prima grande pittrice professionista della storia dell’arte occidentale e una delle più importanti protagoniste del Barocco.
Figlia del pittore Orazio Gentileschi, Artemisia si affermò grazie a uno straordinario talento e a una determinazione fuori dal comune. Dopo gli esordi a Roma, si trasferì a Firenze, dove lavorò alla corte del granduca Cosimo II de’ Medici e nel 1616 divenne la prima donna ammessa all’Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. La sua fama la portò poi a Venezia, quindi a Napoli, dove fondò una fiorente bottega, e persino a Londra, chiamata a lavorare per la corte di Carlo I d’Inghilterra.
Con la forza della sua pittura e la qualità delle sue opere, Artemisia conquistò un posto nella storia dell’arte, diventando un simbolo di talento, indipendenza e innovazione.

We celebrate Artemisia Gentileschi (Rome, 8 July 1593 – Naples, c. 1654), the first great professional woman painter in the history of Western art and one of the leading figures of the Baroque.
The daughter of the painter Orazio Gentileschi, Artemisia established herself through exceptional talent and determination. After her early years in Rome, she moved to Florence, where she worked under the patronage of Grand Duke Cosimo II de’ Medici and in 1616, became the first woman admitted to the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. Her growing reputation took her to Venice, then to Naples, where she established a successful workshop, and to London, where she worked for the court of King Charles I.
Through the power of her painting and the excellence of her work, Artemisia secured her place in art history, becoming a lasting symbol of talent, independence, and artistic innovation.
