Explore the mysterious depths of the ocean with the extraordinary Goblin Shark! 🦈 Recently, Australian scientists recorded the first-ever live footage of this elusive creature in its natural habitat within the Tonga Trench, at a depth of nearly 2,000 meters. This remarkable discovery provides a rare look into the life of a species often referred to as a “living fossil,” believed to have remained largely unchanged for around 125 million years.
The Goblin Shark is famous for its unique extendable jaw, which can rapidly project forward to capture prey, as well as its pinkish, semi-transparent skin that gives it a truly distinctive appearance. Its long, pointed snout is equipped with electroreceptors that help it detect prey and navigate through the complete darkness of the deep ocean.
Despite its intimidating look, the Goblin Shark is a slow-moving species and poses no threat to humans.
