🎠 The Historical Carousel at the Winter Wonders (Brussels)
The carousel you find at Brussels’ Christmas markets is Andrea’s Carousel (Le Manège d’Andréa), an artistic merry-go-round created by the French company La Machine and designer François Delarozière.
It’s a hand-crafted carousel, built in 1999 using materials like wood, metal, copper, and recycled objects.
Its style is fantastical and steampunk, inspired by the world of Jules Verne: it features imaginary animals and poetic machines (giant chameleons, flying fish, mechanical seahorses…). Many of the figures include levers and handles that children can operate.
During Winter Wonders, the major Christmas event in Brussels, it is installed in Place Sainte-Catherine. It’s designed for children aged 2 to 11, costs around €3, and is one of the most iconic and photogenic attractions of the market.
In short: it’s not just a carousel, but a moving work of art, blending nostalgia, craftsmanship, and Christmas magic.
