Andrea Zacchia Releases New Album Anemoia: A Sonic Journey Through Jazz, Memories And Imagined Time.
Italian guitarist and composer Andrea Zacchia invites listeners on a musical journey between memory and imagination—an unreal yet intimately known place. May 30th, 2025 marks the release of his his second album, "Anemoia", for Filibusta Records
This contemplative, groove-laced exploration of modal jazz and post-bop is built on the dynamic energy of a Hammond trio, featuring Pietro Caroleo (Hammond organ) and Maurizio De Angelis (drums), guided by a profound sense of nostalgic imagination.
Zacchia shares, "Anemoia expresses a part of me that drifts between real and imagined memories. It's the sound of sunsets from a meadow, a light breeze, or adolescent rock jams in a country rehearsal room."
The title, from ancient Greek for "wind" and "mind," perfectly captures "a nostalgia for a time I never lived, yet one I feel deeply every time I play these notes."
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Federico Palmieri at Fusion Music Studio (RM), the album dynamically navigates between open structures and powerful interplay. It's a sonic landscape where suspended harmonies give way to rhythmically rich sections, intertwining groove and melody in a refined balance.
The guitar, with its lyrical to sharper phrasing, guides the melodic discourse, constantly dialoguing with the ensemble. The Hammond organ crafts rich, layered harmonies as both foundation and solo voice. Drums dynamically underline transitions, taking the trio through intense and contemplative moments.
Songs unfold with fluid architecture, melodies evoking open spaces and dreamlike scenarios, while improvisation becomes the expressive heart of the narration. Anemoia blends melodic sensitivity and rhythmic depth—a journey through color, movement, and memories, poised between solid structures and the unknown.
