New Orleans Jazz Fest is live. Ron Carter closed the WWOZ Jazz Tent on Sunday — at 88, still the most recorded jazz bassist in history, still steering the room from the bass.

Jon Batiste headlined Friday with an all-local lineup and returns Sunday for something called "Jon Batiste presents Swamp" If you're not there in person, it's worth following.

Luigi Masciari flew in with compositions written on hotel napkins. Aaron Parks showed up with a Fender Rhodes he'd been playing all night at a club in Williamsburg. Roberto Giaquinto had three hours of sleep and all the energy in the world.

The AI conversation isn't going away. Jazz musician Jason Moran was recently congratulated on a new EP he had never recorded — a fake AI-generated release on Spotify using his style.

Meanwhile, Berklee College of Music is dividing faculty and students over how deep AI integration should go in composition education. And a new startup called GRAI just raised $9M on the idea that people don't want AI to make their music — they want AI to help them engage with it. Three very different points on the same map.

Bassist, composer, sonic architect. His credits read like a who's who of Italian music — Fiorella Mannoia, Massimo Ranieri, Antonello Venditti. But "Dark Allegro" is something else entirely.

Imagine a film noir scored by a jazz musician who grew up on horror films. Each track is an episode — "Mud Snake" is hypnotic groove, "Voodoo Doll" is modern blues, "Space Vampires" is the finale nobody sees coming.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month 2026 — with a special focus on the centennials of Miles Davis and John Coltrane, both born in 1926. The Smithsonian and dozens of venues worldwide are celebrating all month.

The Jazz Journalists Association just revealed its 2026 Jazz Heroes — 34 grassroots culture workers from 32 cities honored for sustaining and expanding the music in their communities. International Jazz Day is April 30.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival kicks off April 24. Herbie Hancock, Trombone Shorty, Earth Wind & Fire on the same fairgrounds. Old school doesn't age.

Meanwhile: over 120,000 tracks are now uploaded to streaming platforms every single day. The jazz world keeps moving — with or without the algorithm.

Tosky Records is now an official member of SCPP — Société Civile des Producteurs Phonographiques, the French collective management organization for phonographic producers.

For an independent label, this is a concrete milestone, not a symbolic one.

SCPP manages and distributes neighboring rights for phonographic productions: streaming royalties, radio and TV airplay, public performance in venues and spaces. By joining, Tosky Records gains formal representation for the collection and redistribution of these rights across France and all territories covered by SCPP's reciprocity agreements — which include most of Europe and beyond.

It also means legal protection, collective advocacy, and official recognition as a phonographic producer at a European level.
