On April 21, 2025, the world lost a great Champion of the poor and marginalized. Pope Francis was a humble Servant of God, a compassionate Vicar who once said that instead of merely serving the poor, we are to accompany our brothers and sisters who struggle. Even as we mourn his passing, we remember his reminder to become more generous, more hopeful and merciful and to be ready to lift up the most vulnerable among us.
The death of Pope Francis takes us to the cusp of a new Papacy, that of Pope Leo XIV who was elected in the conclave on May 8, 2025. We now wait with bated breath to see where Pope Leo's Pontificate will take us. What we do know is that being from the Order of St. Augustine, his direction might be characterized by a strong emphasis on community and the love of God and neighbor. The Augustinian charism centers among other things service , compassion and care for others reflecting God's love for us. We will pray that the next so many years will be a continuation of this call to charity and an awareness that "we are our brothers' keepers".
We at Life Basket will strive to be a beacon of hope and light to the communities we serve. We pray that together with others, we can heed Pope Francis's call that the Christian should not be satisfied with having hope; they must also radiate hope and be a sower of hope." Words must be accompanied by action. To God Be The Glory!
