Core B**M Terms
B**M: An acronym for Bo***ge, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sa**sm, and Masochism. It encompasses a variety of practices, roles, and dynamics.
Dominant (Dom/Domme): A person who exercises control in a B**M dynamic.
Submissive (Sub): A person who relinquishes control to their Dominant partner.
Switch: Someone who enjoys both Dominant and submissive roles depending on the situation.
Consent: A mutual agreement between all parties involved in B**M activities. Consent must be informed, enthusiastic, and retractable at any time.
Safe Word: A pre-agreed word or phrase used to stop a scene immediately. Common examples include “red” for stop and “yellow” for slow down.
Scene: A planned B**M activity or encounter between participants.
Aftercare: The physical and emotional care provided after a B**M scene, such as cuddling, hydration, or discussing the experience.
Hard Limits: Activities or practices that are off-limits under any circumstances.
Soft Limits: Activities that may require negotiation or have certain boundaries.
RACK: Acronym for Risk-Aware Consensual Kink, emphasizing understanding risks before engaging in activities.
SSC: Acronym for Safe, Sane, and Consensual, a common guideline in B**M.
Dynamic: The power exchange relationship between a Dominant and Submissive.
Collar: A symbol of ownership or commitment in B**M relationships, similar to a wedding ring.
Dungeon: A space equipped for B**M activities, often containing specialized furniture and tools.
