es, Cedric 'Im' Brooks and Rico Rodriguez, reggae veterans Leroy Smart and Leroy 'Horsemouth' Wallace and Winston 'Yellowman' Foster, the original King of the Dancehall. Founded in 1880 by Jessie Ripoll and first named Alpha Cottage, Alpha Boys School is an education and vocational school for young men in Kingston who need of skills training. The Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic order of nuns, have been involved with Alpha since 1884 and have administered Alpha Boys School since 1890. Sister Ignatius (1919-2003), long time Alpha administrator and sometimes called the Mother Theresa of Reggae, is renowned for her love of music and providing the space and encouragement that enabled Alpha boys to become change agents through music. Alpha Boys' School Radio is an innovative effort to help a real Jamaican success story continue to provide a future for those who need it most. Alpha Boys School Radio went live from 26 South Camp Road for the first time October 11, 2015.

On the upcoming album "Higher Education," the reggae collective pays homage to Sister Mary Ignatius Davies and the Alpha Boys' School in Kingston, Jamaica. Each song celebrates learning and a majority of the proceeds will benefit the school.

Joe White, born William Joseph White on September 4, 1941, in Kingston, Jamaica, was raised by his mother, Veronica Topey, in a single-parent household. He attended Alpha Boys’ School where he learned the trade of tailoring. The National Gallery of Jamaica, in collaboration with the International Reggae Poster Contest, is pleased to announce the upcoming Art of Reggae Exhibition Charity Auction to benefit Alpha School of Music, taking place on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 12 Ocean Boulevard, Downtown Kingston.

The auction will begin at 12 noon, led by auctioneer Douglas Reid, artist and owner of Grosvenor Gallery ( ).

Doors open at 10:00 AM and close at 4:00 PM, with registration beginning at 11:30 AM.

This year, the auction includes a framed limited edition stereograph of the late IRPC co founder Michael Thompson's iconic Alpha Ska designed from 2012.

This much-anticipated event serves as the closing celebration of The 30th Art of Reggae Exhibition, which Honours Clive Campbell, better known as DJ Kool Herc, the Jamaican-born pioneer who developed the breakbeat—the foundation of hip hop.
