The U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada announced interest rate cuts today — the Fed reduced its benchmark rate to 4.00-4.25%, the first cut of 2025, while Canada’s key rate dropped by 25 basis points to 2.50%, the lowest in three years and its first cut since March.
For investors in both countries, this could mean cheaper borrowing, fuel for growth stocks, and relief for businesses and households burdened by high rates. But caution is needed — signs of weakness in labor markets, inflation still above target, and global trade risks could make this just the beginning of an easing cycle.
