179th National Flag Day-A Call to Leadership, Unity & Accountability 🇱🇷
Happy 179th National Flag Day to every Liberian at home and across the world 🇱🇷❤️
Today, August 24, we honor the Liberian flag, not merely as a national symbol, but as a powerful reminder of our sacrifices, courage, unity, identity, and responsibility as a people.
As we celebrate, I extend my sincere greetings and best wishes to the peace loving people of the Republic of Liberia, and to His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia.
Our flag was first hoisted on August 24, 1847. Its eleven stripes remind us of the eleven signatories of our Declaration of Independence. Its red, white, and blue colors, together with the lone white star, carry a history that must never be forgotten. But today, we must ask ourselves a deeper question. What does the Liberian flag demand from us?
It demands UNITY when division is easier.
COURAGE when silence is comfortable.
SERVICE when selfishness is tempting.
ACCOUNTABILITY when power is abused.
COMPASSION when our brothers and sisters are struggling. Leadership is not a title. Leadership is responsibility.
Those entrusted with the resources and affairs of the Liberian people must understand that public service comes with accountability. Holding leaders accountable is not hatred, disrespect, or politics, it is part of building a stronger Liberia.
We must demand leadership that serves, institutions that work, transparency that protects the people, and accountability that leaves no one above the law.
At the same time, we as citizens must also look within ourselves. We cannot demand a better Liberia while refusing to practice honesty, respect, unity, discipline, and responsibility in our own communities.
To my fellow Liberians in Japan and across the diaspora. let us stop allowing differences to become divisions. Let us support one another, create opportunities, lift those who are struggling, and show the world that Liberians can disagree without destroying one another. Liberia does not need more division.
Liberia needs vision.
Liberia needs unity.
Liberia needs responsible leadership.
Liberia needs citizens who care.
Liberia needs a generation willing to build, not destroy.
As we raise our flag today, let us remember that the future of Liberia is not only in the hands of politicians, it is in the hands of all of us.
May the red, white, and blue continue to remind us of where we came from, who we are, and the Liberia we must build together.
ONE LIBERIA.
ONE PEOPLE.
ONE FLAG.
ONE DESTINY. 🇱🇷
Happy and prosperous 179th National Flag Day, Mama Liberia✍🏾🇱🇷❤️🙏🏾
