道 — “The Way,” “The Path,” or “Guiding Principle/Natural Order.”
Years ago, a colleague once invited me to try calligraphy. The first character that came to mind was 道. I was embarrassed that I signed my name 「アーチャー」 as 「マーチャー」, but I did what I could without assistance. It remains a funny and beautiful memory.
I recommend Miyamoto Musashi’s 五輪書 (Go Rin No Sho / The Book of Five Rings) and 獨行道 / 独行道 (Dokkodo / The Way of Walking Alone), and finally, the 道德經 / 道徳経 (Dao De Jing) — the original Chinese text — to broaden your perspective on the meaning of life.

「道」、「道筋」、または「自然の秩序を示す原理」という意味を持つ言葉。
数年前、同僚に書道を勧められて試したことがあった。そのとき、一番に思い浮かんだ文字が「道」だった。手本もアドバイスもないまま書いたので、日本語で自分の名前「アーチャー」 を 「マーチャー」と書いてしまい、少し恥ずかしかった。でも、今ではそれも面白くて、どこか美しい思い出になっている。
もし人生の意味について考えを深めたいなら、宮本武蔵の『五輪書』と『獨行道』、そして古代中国の原文である『道德経』を読んでみるといいと思う。これらの本は答えをそのまま示すというより、物事の見方そのものを揺さぶり、より深い理解へと自然に導いてくれるだろう。
