Kamikōchi, Nagano 🌿🏔
Kamikōchi (上高地) is a highland valley in the Northern Japan Alps, located in Nagano Prefecture. It’s part of the Chūbu-Sangaku National Park and is considered one of Japan’s most beautiful mountain resort areas.
Where the turquoise Azusa River flows gently beneath the watchful peaks of the Northern Alps…
Where clouds brush Mt. Hotaka, and Kappa Bridge stands quietly over crystal waters…
From the fresh greens of spring to the golden larches of autumn, Kamikōchi is nature’s masterpiece — untouched, serene, and forever breathtaking.
Best Seasons to Visit
• Spring (late April–May) – Fresh greenery and snow still visible on the mountain tops.
• Summer (June–August) – Cool escape from Japan’s humid heat, great for hiking.
• Autumn (late September–October) – Stunning koyo (autumn leaves) with golden larches and red maples.
• Winter – Closed due to heavy snow; the park is open only from mid-April to mid-November.
