A few days in Oslo was just what we needed to slow down on our Easter trip. Whilst often overlooked by visitors to Scandinavia, Oslo has so much to offer.

These are some of my top reasons to visit Oslo!

✍️ Life Lately // April brought a whole host of adventures. We set off on our Scandinavian trip and spent 2 weeks travelling around Denmark, Norway and Sweden. I still can’t quite believe how lucky we were with the weather - only one rainy day - in Northern Europe - in April!!

Sunshine back at home also meant we could finalllyyy get outside. We’ve spent afternoons in the garden, caught up with some of our lovely friends, and enjoyed so much in our local area.

Highlights

• Browsing for beautiful things
• Wargrave river walks and iced coffees from one of our favourite spots
• So much blossom
• Tea break (and the best donuts) at
• Bluebell wood walks in Stoke Row and near
• Pretty skies and sunsets

🌿A short pause in my interrail series to document this year’s Bluebell season - always a highlight.

I made it a priority to head out into the woods at the weekend and I’m so glad we did - we seemed to have timed it just right for the bluebells to be in full bloom.

*As a bit of a perfectionist, I can be guilty of spending *way* too long thinking about what to post here on my little corner of the internet. So, this trip, I’ve decided to make a conscious effort to share some of the smaller moments that usually don’t make it onto the gram or into my blog posts. After all, it tends to be those moments that are the most memorable so why not share them!? Hope you enjoy the extra insight into our travels 🫶

Fushimi Inari Shrine ⛩️

One of Kyoto’s most iconic stops - and absolutely worth taking your time here.

Walk beneath thousands of vermillion torii gates, follow the winding forest paths up the mountain, and pause at the lookout points along the way.

Go early for quieter moments, wear comfortable shoes for the climb, and don’t rush it - the experience is just as much about the journey as the views.

On the way back down, treat yourself to a well-earned coffee or breakfast at (the aptly named!) Vermillion Coffee- perfect for a slow pause by the riverside after the walk ☕️

If you only do one day trip from Kyoto, make sure it’s Nara. Here are some reasons why:

1) The deer are cute!
2) The shrines here are some of the most sacred in Japan.
3) Nara used to be the capital of Japan and is steeped in history.
4) You can feed the deer cookies (shika senbei) and they will - mostly - bow to you before they take it.
5) The deer are cute!
6) It is a really easy day trip and the Kinetsu Private Line (the train from Kyoto) takes you right to Nara Park.
7) Nara Park is beautiful to explore (once you get past all the tourists)
8) The deer are really cute!

Let’s be honest, anyone who goes to Nara falls in love with these deer. Watch out though - they do get rather feisty if you don’t give them their cookies…

Without a doubt, one of my favourite travel experiences recently was our 5 nights in Kyoto. If you don’t know much about this city, it is the cultural centre of Japan and is filled to the brim with shrines, temples and historical sites.

If you’re in Kyoto soon, here are my personal recommendations to help you on your way.

Top things to do in Kyoto:

SEE
⛩️ Kiyomizu-dera temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine and Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion)
🌸 Gion & Higashiyama
🏯 Niko Castle
🎋 Arashiyama - Bamboo grove and nearby Otagi Nenbutsuji and Adashino Nenbutsuji Temples
☀️ Walk or cycle along the Kamo River

EAT & DRINK
☕️
🍡Nishiki Market
