Tokyo’s underground stations are often described as “living organisms” - constantly growing, shifting, and baffling even the locals.

Here is the breakdown of the 5 most “labyrinthine” stations and tips (check in the comments) to survive them.

1. Shinjuku Station: “The Final Boss”
The world’s busiest station with over 200 exits. It is so complex that there is actually an RPG game based on navigating it.

2. Shibuya Station: “The Vertical Maze”
With the recent massive redevelopments, Shibuya has become a 3D puzzle. Some subway lines are 5 stories underground, while others are 3 stories above ground.

3. Tokyo Station: “The Red Brick Mystery”
It’s a mix of a historic palace-style building and a massive underground shopping city. The walk between the Keiyo Line (for Disney) and other lines is nearly 1km inside the station.

4. Ikebukuro Station: “The East-West Flip”
Infamously confusing because the Seibu (West) Department Store is at the East Exit, and the Tobu (East) Department Store is at the West Exit.

5. Otemachi Station: “The Endless Corridor”
Five different subway lines meet here, creating a sprawling network of underground tunnels that connect to Tokyo Station. You can walk for miles without ever seeing daylight.

Save this post if you are in any of these station’s…

Comment “HIDDEN GEMS” to know the hidden gems you can find just steps away from the chaos at each of these stations.
